11 Ways To Keep Your Teeth Healthy

Making a conscious effort to take care of your teeth is essential if you want healthy, clean teeth. Brushing regularly, reducing your sugar intake, and drinking plenty of water all play a vital role in keeping your teeth healthy and free from unwanted cavities.

Here are 11 simple ways to keep your teeth healthy.

1. Brush Before You Go To Bed

It would help if you brushed your teeth after each meal to remove food particles from your teeth and gums. However, brushing your teeth before you go to bed should be a priority. Thoroughly brush and rinse your teeth before you go to sleep, especially if you have consumed sugary food or drink that evening.

2. Brush Your Teeth Thoroughly

Take the time to brush your teeth properly; brush the front, back, and corners of your teeth. Rinse well and repeat if necessary.

3. Brush Your Tongue

Neglecting your tongue when brushing your teeth causes bacteria growth, which is the primary cause of halitosis(bad breath). It would be best to clean your tongue thoroughly using a separate toothbrush or a special tongue scraper to remove the dirt.

4. Use Fluoride Toothpaste

Some natural health advocates often criticize fluoride toothpaste. However, fluoride prevents tooth decay and kills harmful bacteria that could lead to severe gum and tooth problems. Therefore, use toothpaste that contains some fluoride to reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.

5. Floss

If you do not floss your teeth already, start now. Flossing is vital because an ordinary toothbrush will not remove the food debris from between your teeth. Leaving food to fester between your teeth could cause tooth and gum infections. Therefore, most dentists recommend that you floss after each meal; however, flossing once a day is better than not flossing.

6. Use Easy Flossing Tools

Flossing is often difficult for children and the elderly. However, you can solve this problem using easy flossing tools that are just as effective as the traditional dental floss.

7. Use Mouthwash

Mouthwash should play an essential role in your oral healthcare routine. Rinsing your mouth with mouthwash helps to combat oral acidity, also removes debris from difficult to reach areas. Using mouthwash also prevents cavities and gum disease by removing the harmful bacteria from the mouth.

There are various types of mouthwash on the market; some are better than others. Alcohol-free mouthwash is best for sensitive teeth, and mild mouthwash is suitable for children. Ask your dentist to recommend the best mouthwash for your specific needs.

8. Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking water is an effective way of protecting your teeth from cavities. Replace sugary and carbonated drinks with water and drink after each meal to balance oral pH levels.

9. Eat Crunchy Fruit and Veg

Crunchy fruit and vegetables are excellent for the teeth; they strengthen the jaw and teeth, keeping them healthy and strong. Parents should encourage their children to eat carrots, celery, apples, and cucumbers.

10. Reduce Processed Sugars

Reduce or remove processed sugars from your diet altogether. They cause cavities and destroy tooth enamel. If you consume sugary drinks or foods, brush your teeth immediately, floss, and rinse with mouthwash.

11. Go To The Dentist

Visiting the dentist is frightening, especially for children; however, dentists play a significant role in keeping your teeth healthy. They can diagnose problems before they worsen and provide you with a tailored dental health care plan to prevent serious oral health problems.

Implement these dental healthcare tips to reduce the risk of severe dental health issues. Encourage your children to brush regularly, floss, use mouthwash, and avoid sugary foods.
