Invictus

Amor Fati

This is how I live my Life.

But what does this mean?

Directly it translates from Latin to English as:

Stricken, I Rise

Unconquerable

Loving Fate

But let me dive further into the depths of Meaning of these Latin words.

Life is Hard.

There is no question about it.

However, where your Focus goes becomes your Reality.

If you Focus on Falling...

If you Focus on the Hard Ground...

If you Focus on it being Difficult...

If you Focus on Failing...

Then your Reality becomes Difficult.

You start to always look at the Ground.

You begin to Predict when the dirt will hit your face, and leave you scraped, bruised, and bleeding on the ground.

Then the Inevitable Question comes up...

Why should I get back up?

But the deeper Reality is that the Merit of your Life is not going to be determined by how often you Fall.

It is Determined by how many times you Rise.

There is a similar Japanese saying, "Fall Seven, Rise Eight."

Put your Focus on what Matters - Rising.

So Life is Hard, Who Cares?

That just makes you Human, just like me, just like every other person.

It might not be Easy to get up, but it is Powerful.

It is Inspiring.

It can give you the Power to move Mountains.

This takes us to Unconquerable, Invictus.

There is a poem that goes by the same name.

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate,

I am the captain of my soul.

-William Ernest Henley, 1875

This is the essence of what it is to be Unconquerable.

You will get beaten, stricken, bludgeoned, and left bloody.

Sometimes it is due to circumstances, things outside of your control.

But it doesn't matter.

The Reality is that YOU are in charge of what happens.

You can Rise.

You are the Captain of your Soul.

When Life deals its blows to you...

and it will...

You get back onto your feet like Captain America and say,

"I can do this all day."

The only thing that can stop you is you.

But if you don't stand in your own way, and you always get back up, you become Unconquerable.

This brings us to the final piece - Amor Fati, Loving Fate.

This comes from the Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche but has been further linked to Stoic Philosophers like Epictetus and the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.

Life happens.

As I said, it will beat you, strike you, bludgeon you, and you will be left bleeding.

Sometimes Physically...

Sometimes Mentally...

Sometimes Emotionally...

And sometimes Spiritually...

It is not easy.

Often it happens due to things that are outside our control.

We can Choose to let these things Beat down on us Further.

We can Choose to let them Smash our Faces into the mud.

But we have another Choice as well.

We can Look at Life in the Eyes...

Stare Deeply Into the Abyss of Fate...

And We Can Choose to Love It.

We Can Revel in it.

Perfect...

Another Chance to Rise.

Another Chance to Prove You're Unconquerable.

Another Chance to Show Everyone What You Are Made of.

You can think of your Life as a Giant Bonfire.

Everything that Happens gives you something.

You can take those things and you could toss them away without use...

Or you can take those things and let them bear down on you and consume you...

Or you can cast it into the Bonfire and use it as Fuel to burn Brighter.

Those things will happen no matter what.

You might as well put them to use and use them as Fuel.

Inspiring bit of writing! My favourite part is "fall seven, rise eight" 😁

I'm not sure I believe in manifesting, because that allows us to downplay very real inequality that is rooted in oppressive practices, but I don't think that negates the truth within what you're saying, the mind is also our own battleground to conquer. If we can manage our minds, we are capable of more than we realise and a mantra to help you remember that can be helpful!
