JOHN

(reading)

"Congratulations, Mr. John Andrews! You've been selected to become a foster parent."

John's eyes widen, and he glances around at the chaos surrounding him.

JOHN

(to himself)

Foster parent? I can barely take care of myself!

INT. KITCHEN - DAY

John shuffles into the kitchen where his best friend, MIKE, a laid-back and perpetually optimistic guy, is preparing breakfast.

MIKE

(smirking)

Well, well, well, Johnny-boy! What's got you looking like you've seen a ghost?

John hands Mike the letter, and Mike bursts into laughter.

MIKE

(teasingly)

This is rich! You, a foster parent? We should start a reality show.

JOHN

(defensive)

It's not that crazy, Mike. Besides, the government pays good money.

MIKE

(raising an eyebrow)

Money, huh? That could buy a lot of pizza.

INT. FOSTER AGENCY OFFICE - DAY

John and Mike sit across from a stern-looking AGENCY WORKER, MS. JONES.

MS. JONES

(serious)

Mr. Andrews, fostering a child is a serious commitment. Are you sure you're up for it?

John fidgets in his seat while Mike tries to stifle his laughter.

JOHN

(determined)

Absolutely, Ms. Jones. I have a big heart, even if I'm a bit of a mess.

MS. JONES

(skeptical)

Well, Mr. Andrews, we have a teenager named LILY who needs a stable home. She has quite the independent spirit.

John's eyes widen with apprehension.

JOHN

(a bit panicked)

A teenager? Are you sure she won't be too much to handle?

MS. JONES

(smirking)

I believe in your ability to rise to the occasion, Mr. Andrews. You start tomorrow.

John and Mike proudly survey the spotless living room. The doorbell RINGS, and John nervously opens it to reveal LILY, a sassy and street-smart teenager.

LILY

(raising an eyebrow)

You're my foster parent? You look like you need one yourself.

John stammers, lost for words, while Mike tries to hide his laughter.

MIKE

(smirking)

Don't worry, Lily. John's just trying to keep up with the Kardashians.

Lily rolls her eyes but can't help but crack a smile.

INT. JOHN'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - DAY

The living room has returned to its usual chaotic state. John sits at the coffee table with Lily, surrounded by books and papers.

LILY

(genuinely interested)

So, what's all this stuff you're always working on?

JOHN

(excitedly)

Oh, it's my invention ideas. You see, I have a mind full of million-dollar schemes that never quite work out.

Lily flips through a few of the papers, grinning.

LILY

(deadpan)

I think you're onto something here, John. A pen that writes its own to-do lists? Genius!

Okay, maybe cooking isn't my strongest suit, but I'm learning!

Lily playfully elbows him, and they continue to cook, exchanging tips and laughter.

John, Lily, and Mike sit on the couch, eating pizza and watching a sitcom on TV.

MIKE

(raising his slice)

They clink their pizza slices together and burst into laughter.
