What Love Really Means

Most people already have their idea of what love is to them. They may think that love is what we see between two characters in a movie or tv show but that's not reality, isn't it? Here are the examples from other people on what they think love means:

Love is Security:

“For me, love is the most secure feeling. Love is having a companion, best friend, lover, partner, sounding board, cheerleader, advisor, and cuddle buddy through every avenue in the journey of life.”

Ash D.

Love is Indescribable

"Love is a sentiment not able to be characterized by words.”

Kurt S.

Love is About Give-and-Take

“Completely opening up and sharing your feelings and life with them daily, that’s what constitutes a healthy relationship. But, it must be mutual. If a particular area is lacking on either side of the relationship, it makes it unideal and unhealthy.”

Dylan P.

Love is Respect

“To me, a healthy relationship is built on respect for one another. Each person understands the commitment they are making to the other person.”

Skylar M.

Love is Being In-Sync

“A healthy relationship could describe a plethora of different types of relationships, but the most important aspect of being in a relationship is being in sync. Whether you both talk through every hour of your waking day, or whether you agree that you’re both busy and you’ll just talk on the phone at the end of every day, as long as you both are in agreement, that is what’s important.”

Zane P.

These are all well thought ideas of love but there's only a true idea of what love means. Love means loving someone without having expectations or limiting beliefs. It means caring for someone, putting their needs before your own, and having a genuine desire for their happiness. Sadly, most people have been devastated and deceived by pop culture's definition of "true love." It's true that all love starts out as new love. But new love is easy. It’s expansive and romantic. In a sense, it’s what the hippie generation used to call "free love."

Everyone feels these emotions in new romantic relationships. It’s just the way our brains are wired. Meanwhile, true lasting love is earned love. True love is a journey together through mountains and valleys. There's nothing more bonding than helping each other through life’s challenges. This often requires that you let go of ego and what you think is most important to you. Couples who grow and survive life’s challenges learn to do what’s best for the relationship. These are all well thought ideas of love but there's only a true idea of what love means. Love means loving someone without having expectations or limiting beliefs. Love is more of a feeling that a person feels for another person. People often confuse love and lust. Love means to be deeply committed and connected to someone. It means caring for someone, putting their needs before your own, and having a genuine desire for their happiness. Sadly, most people have been devastated and deceived by pop culture's definition of "true love." It's true that all love starts out as new love. But new love is easy. It’s expansive and romantic. This often requires that you let go of ego and what you think is most important to you. Couples who grow and survive life’s challenges learn to do what’s best for the relationship. To be honest, love can mean absolutely anything to anyone but there’s only one love that someone can truly understand which is true love. True love is the deepest part of someone. It is more powerful than other love that is out there. In conclusion, love can mean anything but only true love is what love really means. I know most people have heard and seen the saying “True Love's” Kiss is a trope that is fairly popular, mainly in Disney-related fandoms. When two characters who are considered to be in True Love kiss, it usually cures whatever magical spell/curse that one character (usually the female) is in. But true love is actually similar to this. True love is just to say how powerful love can be, what love can do and how far people really go for love like what you see in the show “ You.” That is the worst portrayal of love that I have seen. That is not what LOVE is.
