Turning to Faith from Materialism

True Bliss

As we grow, we are taught to trust in the material world we live in. We think only things we see, touch, taste, smell, and hear can be genuine and trusted. Although there is so much more available to us if we open to the foundation of what creates the world we live in.

When we first awaken to the world, we are taught by our parents what is right and wrong, what things are called, how to act, what to expect, and forget our true nature. Due to the value of education, knowledge, and being accepted in the society we live in for safety and security. Over time as we condition ourselves to what society and peer groups want from us, we lose more and more of our essence, and our souls yearn for something more.

What is this yearning we can’t seem to scratch?

Every human wants to be seen/known for who we indeed are and be loved unconditionally. We are not our job, degree, mother, father, appearance that we tend to think we are. We are our essence which is beyond form, and beyond any title we can achieve. This is why once people meet the goals they have wanted, they find themselves unfulfilled and unhappy. These titles and achievements lack the essence of how one wants to be seen as a human being. When one gets divorced, loses a job, gets married, becomes a mom/dad is promoted, they don’t lose their essence, only what they perform. These are all external circumstances that pass with time; the truth is always there behind the events.

If you were asked to describe your best friend without using titles, you know they are unique and can’t be duplicated. It is not their physical form or what they can perform, but their essence. This essence makes a human who they are at their core and is who they want to be recognized for and live through. People often look to be identified from the outside rather than from the shining presence within. Once we can acknowledge this, we realize there is more in this world than we can sense. There is a definite energy that emanates from each person that we can’t explain by the senses alone.

We can further describe the phenomenon of energy with the feeling of love. We all have experienced this, although it is not tangible. No one can see or feel exactly what this is like to any individual. It can’t be seen, touched, heard, smelt, or tasted. When we wake up, we realize there is more to this world than what meets what we tend to rely on.

So why do we rely so much on these senses to guide our way even though there is evidence there is more. We tend to want something tangible that we can prove, although it gives us a sense of security that security is surreal. Maybe our senses have failed us to the nature of what life is. Let’s face it, all the material things always fade in time, and what we are left with is our essence and the difference we made in this world with what we have given it.

A tree as a human is its presence. This presence lives for the moment. It doesn’t have a worry or stress itself out as it loses its leaves. It doesn’t worry when the new leaves will grow or when it will receive water. This is where we humans can learn to lean on faith in our presence alone.

The tree gives its’ gift of shade to all that it encounters. It is not picky as to who it shares its shade with. It shares with all. Meaning nature is our teacher and balancer in our human form. It gives unconditional love with its’ gifts to all that it has the pleasure to encounter.

As humans, we tend to conditionally love, only sharing our presence with those we chose based on our judgment. Believing this material body as who we are as our identity. If you have to protect yourself, you think you are your body instead of trusting in your presence and unconditional love that is ever prevalent in the world. In this, you can trust and have ultimate faith. It only takes dropping all you have been taught and having faith in the intangible. This could mean you drop many people you know or have trusted for years or your entire life.

Dropping all that you know is not easy. It is taking everything you have relied on and believed in all of your life until now and changing it for something you can’t see, taste, feel, hear or touch. You have a clue that this is the way, although to let go of the security you think you have and live a life of faith is against the norm and scary. You will not be supported by many, and it will be hard to be alone in a world that depends on materialism for security. The secret is spending a lot of time meditating and in silence to overcome these feelings and be in your actual presence. As well as only sharing this deep spiritualism with those on the same path as you.

We can’t see our essence, although just like the love, we know it exists if we can lean into the unknown and trust entirely in the presence of our being. We will always be supported with what we need. Believe with your heart whole in faith to live in a world of freedom and abundance. This is what your soul is searching for—true bliss or samadhi.
