Truth and Honesty

Perception VS Perceived

Truth, many equate this to honesty, but truth has a deeper meaning than just the antithesis of a lie. Truths are evident in many things throughout society. We find truth many times per day, no matter who we are and where that truth presents itself. Many of these truths are misunderstood, biased by our own personal experiences or overlooked completely.

These truths, like the will behind the artist, and the meaning behind their art. The truth found in the reflection we see of ourselves as we look into the mirror with both hope and fear of a future unknown to us. The truth found in the struggles of single parents or families trying to get by. The truth behind the smiles we wear like camaflauge hardened like armour to protect our outward perceptions. The truth behind why the world is how it is and the truth we hide from ourselves.

These truths speak to, not only who we were, who we are, but also who we will become. Some truths are subtle and comforting easing our insecurities while other truths shake the very foundations of our sense of self.

While we all want truth from ourselves and eachother we also fear it. So comfortable living the lie as it is easier to digest that we ignore the problems we face and the truth of what is needed. We look away from truth and treat it as offensive because sometimes the truth is ugly. We choose to ignore the truth, change it or overlook it at times.

We overlook the homeless man on the corner or throw some change while we ignore the truth behind what put him there. We overlook the pain behind the smile as we fear the truth of facing difficult topics. We overlook the truth behind mass extinctions and climate change while the world braces for the next storm. We overlook the broken pieces of society and those that fall between the cracks of those broken pieces. They say ignorance is bliss so many live the lie, too afraid to be hurt by the truth.

We overlook these truths and live the comfortable lie, hoping it will hide the truth just long enough to become someone else’s problem. We fool eachother into believing the lie by creating these societal pressures directing the flow of truth to favour one side or another. Lies are comfortable and easy for today’s society as we have lived them for so long they are our comfort zones. All the while behind these lies the truth remains the truth.

It can be denied or twisted but it will return to truth regardless. It’s time that as a species we stop believing the lies that have broken the world and created the problems we still face today.

There are some truths that can no longer be hidden for the people will always sing its song. It’s time that we stop lying to ourselves and eachother about the state of the world. It’s time that we actively work towards fixing it instead of arguing about who gets to rule over the ashes of a rotting world.

If we as a species will survive the next century it will be because we chose to no longer live the lie. We must embrace the truth of our mistakes and unite to fix it before our problems become the only truth.

The greatest lie we have told ourselves is that we are powerless. We have not only a right, but also a responsibility to save ourselves from this doom of our own making by choosing to change the lie back into truth.

We can change, evolve, and create more truth but it can only be done together.
