He was bathed and shaved, as he quickly pulled on a pair of his jeans. He located a shirt and pour a splash of light cologne on his hands, he slapped the sides of his neck, whistling under his breath. Then he walked out of his cabin down the hill across the road to her cabin. Along the side of the road overgrown crepe myrtles bucked a little from a sudden breeze and scattered their confetti of purple flowers.

When he got to her door, he lifted his fist to know on her door, but he heard music coming from her open window. He peeped through the window with white lace curtains. She was standing at the kitchen table putting food in the picnic basket. A breeze came though the window rippled the curtains and ruffled her long brunette hai. She brushed it out of her face with her hand and continue putting items into the basket singing along with the radio.

Fearing she might look over and se him he quickly knocked on the door.

He watched her though the window as she turned around with her eyes wide with excitement. She composed herself straightening her skirt, turned off the radio and picked up the basket and walkewalked to the door.

She was dressed and ready to go and her heart skipped a beat when she hear the knock at her door. Wearing a pale yellow blouse with a matching floral skirt, she felt young again and care free.

When she opened the door, she found herself struck by the sight of him being dressed so casual, only wearing Jeans and a simple plaid shirt. She had only seen him in his white dr. coat in his office, where she met him being the only Dr. in this small mountain town.

Hello Rose!

He greeting her in his low confident voice with his face mask covering part of his face beneath his dark thick hair dark penetrating eyes.

I’m ready. She replied though her lowered mask on her face. She skillfully rushed him away from her door handing him the picnic basket to carry as they walked toward the clutter of trees at the edge of the forest.

A short time later under the protection of an overhanging willow tree’s branches from the mid day sun near a creek that bubbled over smooth stones they sit peacefully on a flowered tablecloth eating the cold cuts, cheese crackers and fresh strawberries.

She reached inside the basket and took out two wine glasses. Then a bottle of Merlot wine.

Oh, he said as he picked up the bottle to exam it. My favorite -how did you know.?

I didn’t

It’s my favorite also.

He opened it with the bottle opener and poured it into their wine glasses. They tap them together and both took a sip at the same time.

So warm rich with just hint of chocolate, so delicious! ! She said. Yes! He said as he gulped his down. He

got up to her surprise offered her his hand.

Drink it down- come with me- I want show you something.

She quickly drank the wine and took his hand.

She looked at the sky - “It is such a beautiful day- not a cloud in the sky. I’m so glad I choose this remote town to spend the summer to finish my novel.

Yes, he looked into her lovely brown eyes— and so am I !

She blushed and laughed at the same time.

I remember walking here when I was a child, he commented as A white butterfly fluttered pass them.

They made their way down a quiet trail cushioned with pine needles. Branching trees arched over them forming a cool green tunnel with colorful rays of sunshine spearing though them.

She felt like she had stepped into a magical fairy land. When they reached the end of it, there stepped into a lush meadow with a field full of bright colorful wild flowers. A sea of of Black-eyed Susans, cosmos, and even blue for-get-me nots. In the center of the meadow there stood an tall ancient oak tree.

When they came closer to the tree, he took hold of her hand and to her surprise he began climbing it pulling her with him.

The branches on the tree were so thick and broad you could walk upright on them. She stopped and looked down and saw an oasis filled with towering shade trees of all shapes, sizes and color swaying on the hill sides in the soft warm breeze. A golden illuminating sun was hanging over the layers of mountains casing it’s bribright sun rays on them.

“This was my favorite place. When I needed to get away- this is where I would go, and even now it is still my special place. “

She looked at him and saw how his eyes were relaxed and gleaming with happiness.

It’s— it’s so much more than beautiful!!!

Yes- he said. Yes- yes it is. He was looking at her as though he was talking about her and not the scenery.

Their eyes locked and his face moved slowly closer to hers and then suddenly the large branch began to sway. They grabbed tighter hold of the tree’s arm as it began to sway up and down. Seeing the surprised and a little freighter look on her face he began to laugh throwing his head back while holding on tight to her. She couldn’t help but laugh also as she soon found their was nothing to fear. Mother Nature gave them a fantastic ride. She looked down watching the wind agitating the forest, stirring it, bending the trees from mountain to mountain. Then as suddenly as the gale had begun, it stopped and all was still again.

He climbed down first, holding out his arms for her to jump into when he reached the ground. She hesitated then laughed and took the leap and he successfully catch her. This time when his face came close to hers, she didn’t hesitate as he gently kissed her lips!

He slowly put her down on the ground and holding hands they walked back to there picnic area, picking up everything and smiling at each other, hand in hand walked back to her cabin.
