Once upon a time....,

Telephones and internet still exist but, all social media apps (including Youtube), have disappeared.

Flustered and anxious, people are concerned about the sudden change. No one knows how to best spend their free time now that Instagram, Facebook etc. have vanished. An hour feels like a day and, the weekend everyone always anticipated, now is tedious and boring. Once you step outside, whether at work, public transportations or the mall, you notice everyone's grumpy faces and bored expressions. Everywhere you go, there is an unrivaled awkward silence soaking up the entire atmosphere.

People begin to complain to one another, they feel lonelier than ever and cannot lead a normal life anymore. Huffing and puffing, fidgeting and sighing is now the norm at any social gathering. How did previous generarions of 30+ years, survive life without social media? How was life for them back then? Similar thoughts ponder people's minds, but no one is able to figure out a sensible solution, yet.

Perhaps this all happened to benefit and develop society and to enhance human interaction, as well as improve quality of communication. This could be an opportunity for people to finally socialise face-to-face, form genuine relationships and remove any barriers created by social media.

As humans, we are known to adapt to change quite well. Eventually, month after month, here we are, accuostomed to life without social media. People have accepted the new reality and are living vibrantly. Instead of posting their outfits on social media, they go out wearing them. Rather than sending comments, people instantly compliment each other saying, "you look nice" or simply give a nod of approval. Now people casually greet each other, rather than anxiously stare down at their phones.

Undoubtedly, clear communication is on the rise, people have learnt to speak-up rather than resort to ghosting or blocking. Confessions (mainly romantic), are now made directly, aiding in a more transparent interpretation of someone's real intentions and feelings. Socialising is done by actually going out to places and having fun is done by visiting theme parks or entertainment centres. Therefore, once neglected, libraries, internet cafes, theatres and cinemas (to name a few), have blossomed with increasing demand.

Society is moving in a thrilling and rather inspiring direction; who would have thought social media had such a significant impact on people's lives? There is an inevitable boost in human interaction which led to a substantial improvement in mental and physical health. More and more people are out and about, meeting friends or simply just going out to get their photos printed at the print shop. News report an increase in social interactio has vastly improved and almost eliminated social anxiety in some people. Benefits of meeting each other face-to-face to communicate, contributed to enhanced moods and lower stress levels. Additionally, people recognised the true essence and importance of communicating in-person, and how that particularly created a strong bond which cannot be replicated through social media. Also, a notable reduction in misinformation circulating often caused by misunderstandings due to misinterpreting words sent as messages. Less time spent on social media has helped people overcome various health issues specifically mental health related. This has proved to many that, human interaction is not to be overlooked and deemed unnecessary. Nonetheless, people realised that social media alone was not the problem but, how us, humans, have misused it which led to many issues arising. However, despite all of the advantages listed, life remains as challenging as ever. With or without social media, it's a....
