dating
All about dating. First dates, three years into a relationship, Tinder, and more.
Oath of Merlot
A tall woman, about five feet seven inches, with caramel silky locks of hair that tumbled down her back in gentle waves, was gazing out her bedroom window into the rosy sunset. She was lost in her own world and did not see the rows of houses in her view. She was suddenly brought back to reality by the sound of her texting ringtone. She sighed and pulled out her phone to unlock it and open the message. It was her friend, Rima, from college that she sees several times a year to get together and hang out.

If you loved 24, then we have a really good chance of being together.
There I was, on a first date, and about to reach the end of a conversational diving board as I ask, “So, what are some of your favorite shows?” And I know that if The Office or Stranger Things isn’t on that list then he’s really not the guy for me. We’ve reached this ‘if this, then that’ moment in our relationship. If you liked Sneaky Pete, then we can keep going. If you loved 24, then we have a really good chance of being together.

Skaterboi and the Mutant
It was Day 180 of no-human-touch other than the technician who marked up my breasts with a green sharpie through a blue glove for daily radiation treatments. It was a global pandemic, and I was finally getting my immunity back. The last year of my life had been, at best, so treacherous that I figured it could only go up from there and, at worst, so on-brand given my history of spooky medical traumas, that I figured I was a walking curse without a worthwhile future.

To Old Drinks and New Names
"I don't do blind dates." Leslie mumbled, adjusting her mask again. The Montana wind blew cold, making her unusually grateful for mandated face coverings. November was cold in Missoula, and even though it was her third year there, she sometimes still missed the year-long warmth of Arizona.

A glass of Merlot before bed
Sehreen Daniels was from Fort Worth, Texas. She had lived there all her life, having never left the Metroplex area, not even for a vacation. She lived with her sister and her sisters husband in a small house in the Fort Worth Suburbs. The house was located in a little town called Watauga where she worked as the manager of the local Wal-Mart Store. Her sister worked for a huge marketing firm in Dallas. Her name was Sharry Daniels. Their mother had spelled their names a special way as a sign that her girls were special. Sehreen sometimes thought her mother had made a mistake spelling her name special because there was nothing special about herself. Sharry had all the special. Little did she know things were about to change.
