The Horizon
She walked away in disbelieve. She had been expecting good news. All the other young women had been paired up. She had her eye on a specific young man, but without the shamans' forecast that was not to be. The image of the advisor was of a ship on the horizon. Her fate was in that ship. Miara was not excited by the thought of adventure. She had seen the men that came in on those ships. Most of them were tan and muscular. They just didn't seem to be the dependable type. The ships didn't come into port that often. One had just left today. It wasn't as if she would go to the dock in search of a husband. The shamans had never made a mistake.

The Tinted Glass By Deveney Marshall
It was a misty Thursday evening in New Orleans. The sun was close to setting and gave the sky a magical haze of pink and golden tones that only a rainy day in NOLA could have. The smell of rain lingered on everyone’s nose as they perused up and down a tranquil Magazine Street. On Magazine sat a quaint bar, famous amongst the locals for its array of wines and beignets. It was one of those bars that lured you inside with its mystic ambiance. Passersby would admire the patrons of the bar, commenting on how everyone inside looked so cultured. The type of people who have memories of traveling to cities like Paris and Milan. Strollers looking in envisioned the people who frequented the bar were famed authors, designers, painters and had come to the city to find inspiration for their latest masterpiece.

Change of Plans
I got to the restaurant early to get a drink at the bar. I let the host know that I was here so that he could come and get me when my table was ready. I could feel my heart racing in my chest, hoping that I wouldn’t sweat right through my suit. I walked to the bar and scanned the room. Pretty slow today, I thought, but then again, it was a weekday.

Our First Date
He’s here! Excitement runs through my blood and I race to the full length mirror to check my final look. I smile, pleased with myself. My skin glistened, and the waves of my hair set perfectly and I am absolutely radiant! Of course, it’s because of John.

First date with the real me. Top Story - April 2021.
A quick look at the antique clock on my bedside table shows me I'm late. Late late. I take another sip of my second glass of Merlot and assess my reflection in the mirror. A little black dress that hugs my curves perfectly (translation, getting air in will be problematic, especially after last night's enormous piece of chocolate cake), ankle boots too high for my chronic clumsiness (but absolutely gorgeous), red lips, big hazel eyes accentuated with black eye-liner. Despite the dress being too tight for comfort, it's the only thing that felt remotely sexy at the moment. And you always need a bit of sexy for a blind date, as dating is no picnic.

Shaken Not Stirred
I went to the bar for a single glass of Merlot, and the next morning I woke up beside a stranger for the first time in my life. Shockingly, I didn't panic. I took a moment to just to breathe and stare at the ceiling. Uncertain of the events that lead me here, all I could do was lay there in disbelief. I gazed at this unfamiliar but extremely handsome man thinking to myself, I don't even know his name. Wait. What is his name? As if my head wasn't hurting enough, It began throbbing harder as I realized that I was in bed with a man who's name I couldn't even remember.

Blue
As a carnival danced through a city, a boy with blue hair dealt MDMA to its revellers. He skirted past a girl whose dolly shoes sporting a big red bow, weren’t fit for skanking through baselines, but found customers amongst her friends. A swift-flicker of her gaze was held captive in his eyes; as if they were a swimming pool collecting speckled-yellow-spots from her rays.

The vineyard of love
Lillian laid there with her face sunken into the soft golden satin pillow case that wrapped around the memory foam pillow. The glare pierced her eyes as the sun shined through her open curtains that hung with soft colors of blue and green that splattered across the yellow back drop that flowed in front of her French doors, that lead to her balcony. She moaned with satisfaction while stretching her arms to the celling all while smiling with excitement and happiness. Lillian looked over at her alarm clock and noticed the time 6:30am, blinking in red; she Thought to herself, “I have 3 hours to get dressed and head to the airport for my 9:30am flight to Italy.” Lillian was excited about the trip her and the girls, Jessica and rose had planned. The Case
THE CASE Of Merlot It is a full flight on a small plane. People are engulfed into their own conversations. A mother is cooing her wiggly child to sit still before take off. Then the overhead announcer interrupted updating cabin policies. Seat belts clicking away and the flight attendant paced down the aisle with a lead foot to make sure that luggage was properly stowed away.
