Once there was a time when humans thought that food would never run out. That thought came from the amount of humans there were, and how much food people were buying and actually eating. Food was abundant at that time because everyone was eating exactly the right amount of food. No more and no less. Families would go to the grocery store, and buy only what they needed; people were kind and took into consideration what everyone else might want/need, not just caring about themselves. We were at the top of the hill though, and things naturally fall from a high point to a low point and they do so very quickly. People stopped caring about one another, not all at once but everyday it would decrease. The farmers started getting paid less, and so they went out of business leaving us in the hands of giant corporations that never cared from the beginning. Families started going to the store and buying things no one would need. Packages of oreos, and bags upon bags of cereal and small snacks. Next thing we knew the shelves stopped being full when we went shopping. Products were coming out slower and slower, and it looked like the beginning of a pandemic. The food was gone, and it was never returning.

Fortunately, most people don’t buy to many sweets or so we thought. When the meat and vegetables ran out everything that was established fell apart. People had forgotten where their food came from so there was mass confusion amongnst them. Not only did the real meat run out, but the fake deli meat that everyone was accustomed to was gone too. The fresh vegetables were gone yes, but so were the canned vegetables, and the frozen product. There was no shortage as much as it was an extinction. The government put out a mandate to start rationing food, but those times were over. There was mass carnage. Families stealing from each other for things as simple as beans and rice. Since the food shortage was changing the people the government did what they could to alter what was important in life. Every country did away with paper money as it wasn’t important anymore. Out of all the fast food business’ open 90% were shut down. The output of food they were creating compared to how many people were eating that food, or taking it home to waste was to high.

Since paper money was out the door employees would be compensated in food amount and rating. Things that lasted multiple years like canned food, uncooked rice and beans were given a five star rating. Four star ratings were given to potatoes and any kind of bread. Three stars and below would be considered fodder, because of the lack of sustenance as it was just a pleasant taste for a short amount of time. This included candy, chips, and rock ice cream. The new system was taken into effect immediately, and was working for the majority of people. However, there was a growing problem of theft and people were still eating to much; beyond that there were still to many mouths to feed. The representatives for each continent agreed to meet in the middle of a desert, in the middle of the world to come up with a solution. What they thought of was a chance. The human race had just that year having spent trillions on research learned how to navigate the stars. They told the people of Earth not to worry for they had a plan that would save them all, but it was risky and required everyone’s help. The shuttle could only fit ten people aboard it. Those ten people would take all of humanities struggle, and put it on the nape of their backs hoping to find other life in space that would help them avoid complete ruin of a species.

The plan was that each family would cut back or be cut down. There was a child ban and a conceiving law put in place, and any woman currently carrying a baby must leave it to die, give it to a family with a lesser amount of children or would be allowed to keep it if they were under the limit. There would be no need to work, and everything provided would be done out of the sake of necessity. They figured we were doomed, but could at least delay our fate until helped arrived, and if it didn’t the ten left would be our legacy. The world had no choice so everyone accepted this plan of waiting for extinction. On launch day the whole world was watching as their only hope boarded the vessel. Not only did the astronauts not know what kind of help they were seeking, but they didn’t know what they were carrying that would make them seem peaceful. What is the one object in the world that’s universally known as a peace offering is what everyone was wondering. The doubt crept in, and the planet seemed so heavy for the ten seconds of launch. Then they were gone, and everyone left on planet had their heads to the sky, but inside the shuttle the astronauts were discovering the cargo. They all surrounded this object that was inside a blue box and covered with warning signs. Looking at each other they opened the box slowly. Inside was a metal flat plate and covering it was a matching metal top, with an eggshell white napkin flopping over.

Immediately they all laughed, thinking to themselves only the worst. The world that they were carrying on their shoulders was really in the fate of some high class food. Realizing this couldn’t be it they grounded themselves again hoping for the best of this terrible situation. Snatching the top off they all looked intently at the object in disbelief. It was a slice of original chocolate cake. From the time when cake could be made because there was no lack of milk or eggs. They hoped that it wouldn’t be food, but this was no ordinary slice of cake. The chocolate was deep. There were three layers of milk chocolate at the top, German chocolate in the middle and a dark chocolate bottom. The icing was white chocolate and the whole thing was stuffed with chocolate chips, and salted cookie dough plus it was the size of a human forearm. The crew, all at once stopped crying and laughing, and rejoiced. This slice of chocolate cake… is beautiful!
