Omoni Oboli Responds to Man Mocking Her for Making 'Cheap Youtube Movies'

Here's what she said

By Jide OkonjoPublished 3 days ago 3 min read

The movement of a lot of Nigerian filmmakers to Youtube is a conversation that keeps happening over and over again with this new distribution channel being the one of choice for many producers. Star actress and producer, Omoni Oboli, surprised many when she too started her Youtube page. It was surprising mainly because up until that point, Omoni was best known for her blockbuster productions like Wives On Strike, Okafor's Law, Love Is War, and more. Well now, an X user is calling Omoni out about this. Surprisingly, Omoni also responded. Here's what she said.

Taking to X, a user by the name of Wilfred Okiche said:

"Weird how Omoni Oboli went from being queen of the box office (for a hot minute) to cheapo YouTube movies. What does it say about her, the industry, the culture?"

Upon seeing Wilfred's post, Omoni responded to him saying:

OMONI OBOLI: So my decision to make YouTube movies (not cheapo cos my stuff is actually good. You should check out the channel) has nothing to do with ‘where the money is’ cos guess what, YouTube is just another distribution channel. I haven’t left big screen either…big announcement in a few actually. The truth is, when I was only doing big screen, I did one big movie perhaps 2 every year and while my residuals (still making money from those titles till date) is good money for me? What about my crew? YouTube keeps them fed, housed, clothed.

YouTube is steady income for them. They are constantly shooting. This is also my way of bridging unemployment and contributing to the economy. I have shot major projects that are going straight to Netflix and one for big screen. Not talking about them yet but we are working ❤️ 💡

What do you think about what Omoni Oboli had to say and what do you think about her having a Youtube channel too?
