“Don’t be ashamed of needing help. You have a duty to fulfill just like a soldier on the wall of battle. So what if you are injured and can’t climb up without another soldier’s help ?”

- Marcus Aurelius, MEDITATIONS, 7.7

I don’t know how many videos I’ve scroll through on YouTube speaking about "How to be an alpha male". You know, every man want to be that special male who leads the troops, who got all the attention and who’s respected, and stereotypes says : “Alpha males don’t need help”, but in reality, that’s not true.

This expression is used to describe the leader of a wolf pack. The alpha male is the male that kills the preys and lead the pack, the strongest the quickest and the most experienced of the pack. Now, imagine an alpha male alone.

This expression no longer make sense, and he’s just no longer an alpha since he has no one to lead or no one to feed.

What I want to say here is that even if you consider yourself as an alpha male, remember that you are nothing without the rest of the pack and you’ll get eaten by the first predator out there without the help of your peers.

There is no shame in needing help, in whatever situation you’re in. You can be in a material distress, or you can be in a mental distress, which can be quite frequent nowadays.

An emotional stun that can be really painful, a toxic relationship you’re in that drains all your energy, or an injury that can cause mental illness or depression, and the number of thing that can cause that kind of problem grow exponentially as the world goes forward.

Mental health is the most important thing you must take care of. and it should be your first priority. If you find yourself in a situation that don't necessarily satisfies you mentally or makes you sad, just quit it, and heal away from it.

For any questions you’re asking yourself there is an answer, so don’t be afraid to ask. It’s not a shame at all to ask for help, the only thing that will be affected is your ego, and it’s the only thing that prevents humans from asking.

You’re scared of asking because you are afraid to sound dumb in front of others ? That’s ego. You’re afraid to ask because you’re afraid to look weak in front of others ? That’s ego. Everybody’s human, and a human alone would never manage to live a healthy life.

One of the longest running study on happiness by Harvard University has shown that the only thing human needed to live a healthy life full of happiness was in fact other humans, and good relationships. You can find it well explained in my all-time favourite Ted Talk here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KkKuTCFvzI

In this video he pronounces a famous quote that says :

“There isn't time, so brief is life, for bickerings, apologies, heartburnings, callings to account. There is only time for loving, and but an instant, so to speak, for that.”

- Mark Twain

There is no shame in needing help, so ask for anything you need at any moment you need it. Putting your ego aside for a little time can be life-changing. Ask the person you’re the closest to, speak to people who are important in your environment, they will do something for you, they will manage to help you. Anyone would.

Thanks a lot for reading the post until the end, I really appreciate it.

I hope you liked it, and as usual if you want to discuss with me about anything I’m writing please feel free to shoot me a DM on twitter @JBDX_ or on messenger or whatever you prefer.

Tomorrow's article will be called "Offense or Defense ?" So for all of that, and more, see you tomorrow :)
