Kelly Drummond Sat down on the chair and said Whew! What a whirlwind of a day, It has been. How did your luncheon turn out . Were you successful Her Father asked. Yes I am excited, we actually managed to raise $20,000 I’m just amazed. Yes that is fabulous I am very impressed, I know how important this project is to you. Yes it just breaks my heart, when I see so many people living on the streets, homeless and especially at this time of the year when it’s so cold and it Is nearly winter. So this money that you’ve raised is this to buy sleeping bags?. Partly but we have seen this new product that is even better.It is like a Little room the person can go inside and have privacy, and keep dry and warm at the same time. Obviously more expensive than a sleeping bag, this twenty thousand is just a start.

Kelly Drummond was a street pastor, she and her colleagues, would go out at the weekends and go into the city, people thought when she told them this, that she was out preaching in the streets, but that was not what street pastoring was about. Today was the first luncheon meeting to educate people in the community and to raise money, they wanted to make them aware of the homeless in the city.

Street pastors worked along with the police. The city security, and homeless shelter in the city.They would go out in the evenings from ten pm in the evening , until four In The morning. The whole purpose was To make sure that people were safe, they were like Mummies and Daddies protecting the community. they would get radio calls from the police who would ask them to come and help, maybe someone was too drunk and the police did not want to arrest them, but they needed help and street pastors were called in. they would stop fights, Help people who had been hurt, and even the club managers would call them, if someone In The club had too much to drink and was causing trouble. Some people would be thrown out the club, and not be allowed back in but they may have their possessions still inside. They would not be allowed, but a street pastor could go In And retrieve them. One of the things they also did which might seem silly to some people they would look for bottles or glasses In The street, they would pick them up, and dispose of them safely. They were considered weapons. It was also surprising the amount of people they stopped from committing suicide. They handed out gloves socks and hats to the homeless. one of the things they loved getting was a chocolate bar. But the real thing that was important to the homeless was someone taking the time to talk to them. To acknowledge they were there, that someone could see them and they were not invisible. The strange and funny thing that street pastors were known for , was giving out flip flops foot wear. When the girls came out of the clubs with their big high heeled shoes, their feet killing them. They would take their shoes off no matter what the weather, even in rain and snow. And the street pastors would give them the flip flops to make sure they were not hurt. Street pastors did all of this voluntary, They were volunteers it was not a paid job. Kelly loved being a street pastor, but it hurt her and her fellow street pastors to see people homeless. She often talked to people and told them about the shelters, but it was the same story every time, They did not trust the shelters, they knew a lot of the people that went in there and did not feel safe with them.

Kelly had heard of a man who had made inexpensive insulated little tents.They were called homeless homes.she wanted every man to have his own home. What was the saying a mans home is his castle, So she came up with the idea for Monarch Homes. Kelly carried a little black book with her when she went out , she took a note of the names of the people she met, because she would Normally meet those same people every week. she wanted to make sure she knew their names. It was very rewarding, and could also be very funny for instance , she remembered they did a television show about them and overnight they became famous, so much so that when she went out the first night after the television show, what would normally take a few minutes to walk a certain distance, took possibly an hour, because people kept stopping them to have their photographs taken with them.

So what will happen Now her father asked?. We will be able to put in an order Right away for a hundred insulated homes . I know this does it cover the need, but it is a start.

How long will it take for you to get them?

About three weeks. We will give them out and see how it turns out, if it is successful then they will try the same In Other cities. I am really proud of you for coming up with this idea honey, I want you to know that. Thanks Dad but it’s not just me, it is a team effort.
