Prologue (That Can Be Skipped If...You Know...It's A Critical Moment For You)

Writers are great at creating spaces. I decided I needed one for being concise. Compact.

There's a part of me that felt a tad deficient in that arena. Like I had been running marathons so consistently that my 'sprint game' was off. I wanted to do something about it.

I wondered what took me so long.

Figured that too was symptomatic of longwindedness.

Miniature Mind Musings was born with not an ounce of fanfare (on purpose) cuz fanfare takes up space.

Vocal has a 600-word minimum requirement for nonfiction/fiction pieces. Of course, some stories go waaaaay beyond that.

On some other platforms, the read-time status is given before you even look at the article. That's helpful in lives where we wanna read but don't have War and Peace kinda read-time.

So what follows is a 1 min 39 secs silent read time article with 391 words.

*Last Nerve Emergency 'Start Here' Point*

A spacer emotion. That’s what I am. Here to let you feel when your last nerve is disintegrating.

It happens too fast sometimes.

I’m being polite.

Close to eight billion on the planet yet every single person is wired differently with varying life experiences and final nerve decomposition statuses caused by lord knows what or who.

We are mortal beings with mortal being flaws.

Everyone has breaking points. Of course, we’d rather not have them happen around those we love or in a professional/work environment. But those times are often the percentage majority. Simple math there.

This spacer emotion may involve a personalized mix of disorientation, detachment, perceived increase/decrease of internal temperature, and an upsurge in neural activity in milliseconds.

In that space before a neurochemical reaction becomes an outwardly visible one, embrace distance. That noun…can be your best friend right now.

Distance

dis·tance (dĭs′təns)

n.

1. The extent of space between two objects or places; an intervening space.

2. The fact or condition of being apart in space; remoteness.

When there’s the luxury of extrication, great! But there is another space for you when this is not permissible.

Envision on the back of your eyelids. Or the 3-D high-def widescreen rear center of your mind with stereo surround sound. Exhale and journey to a place of mega chillax. Real or imagined:

The first travel excursion to Tahiti post-lockdown.

Lilo-floating in the beach cove and unlimited margaritas.

Dancing ’til dawn with the fun crowd.

Phenomenal catchup sex wit’ ya Boo.

Whatever it is, drink it in deep for five seconds. Longer if safety permits. Return trip for another five if someone is waiting for a response or just ask them for a minute to think.

Many have go-to mindfulness techniques but when under ‘amygdala hijack’ according to Dr. Alyson Stone, this one is easy and effective:

1. Identify the reaction.

2. Label the emotion.

3. Observe the sensation without judgment or attempts to change it.

Harvard brain scientist Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor stated that human reactions are a 90 sec. chemical process. MRI studies show the anger-generating region of the brain calms with this “labeling.”

Launch a pre-emptive strike.

Work on clearing eighty-five more seconds.

Me: *Real-time* Distanced from hands groping for my last nerve and chilled.

You: Another soothing technique that’s a short read work-based support.

“Eww!” and “Ahh!” moments…
