What are Memes

Memes have been in my life since I was in Grad-School they've given me many laughs and even taught me things. So here's my take on Memes and what they did for me.

There's a meme for everything. The very first Meme ever posted on the internet was a baby dancing which went viral then came many others. Harambe, Condescending Wonka, LOL Cats, Squinting Fry, Success Kid, etc. Memes are funny videos, humorous pictures, and even other people's jokes that have been shared on social media to make them go viral. They're basically like your favorite TV show—but instead of watching it on the couch with your friends at home, you get to watch it on your phone while waiting in line at the store or taking a break from work. And they're not just good for laughs—they can also help you learn new things! It's easy to see how someone else might find something funny and want to share it with their friends—and then those friends might share it with THEIR friends… and so on until everyone knows about it.

Now memes weren't always posted on the internet there were apps at your fingertips that helped you find the funny. When I was growing up we had Vine which was a very popular app since it was so easy to share memes that you found funny, you could even make memes yourself in hopes of going viral. Vine just wasn't popular off of the videos certain creators made the app bloom as well they were the funniest of the funny. Creators such as Josh Peck, Jerry Purpdrank, Logan Paul, Rudy Mancuso, LeLe Pons, and King Bach just to name a few. Unfortunately, due to more competition, and lack of funding Vine was bought out by Twitter. Vine memes still live on through youtube just search up Vine compilation and your eyes will be overwhelmed.

What's left of Vine

Now, with the vine gone where do we get our memes now? Well, other apps came out that were meant for memes apps like Ifunny, 9GAG, and Reddit, just to name a few. Those weren't as popular, though now you can find your more popular memes on tik tok, Instagram, and youtube; these apps keep you up to date on trending memes and what the humor of our generation is right now. TikTok was made in 2016 by a Chinese company called ByteDance; now their app is used by millions to watch memes or other genres of videos. TikTok has made memes more advanced and relatable, in my opinion, plus it gives people different types of memes to laugh at. Instagram was made in 2010 but didn't see its shine until 2012, and now it's one of the biggest social media apps in the world. The memes are golden as well. I probably laugh the most from Instagram memes than from being able to make a profile and post stuff people created meme pages. Those pages are dedicated to just posting memes and nothing else, so Instagram has all the memes from old to new on the app. Now the app has Insta Reels, which is like TikTok but on Instagram, so now memes get posted on there as well. Youtube was made in 2005 Youtube only took a year before it was taking the world by storm. YouTube memes go back decades so you can see that YouTube is the main home for memes. This video down below shows you what memes I had in my Middle School days and some that still live on now.

Memes have been around for centuries ever since the no internet ages, but there is honestly a way to have the time of your life. When you watch memes time flies and you forget what was going on your just in the moment with the meme and your laughs. This concludes my take on memes, thank you for reading.
