In a world where rape is rampant & education is limited for girls we must celebrate the girl child. Rape is a worldwide pandemic of sorts however have you ever heard it declared that way? No, because it only affects women and girls. Women make up 49% of the population of the world. Some countries have more women than men but according to date men outnumber women.

As of 2021, There are 3,970,238,390 or 3,970 million or 3.97 billion males in the world, representing 50.42% of the world population. The population of females in the world is estimated at 3,904,727,342 or 3,905 million or 3.905 billion, representing 49.58% of the world population. The world has 65,511,048 or 65.51 million more males than females.

Gender Ratio in the World in 2021 is 101.68 males per 100 females. There were more females than males until 1957. In the world, the males to females ratio has increased from 99.692 in 1950 to at most 101.704 in 2011. It is now expected to decline at 100.296 in 2100.

The Majority of countries and regions in the world have more females than males. But the top two most populous countries China and India, have a higher male population with a margin. Therefore there are more males than females in the world. If the population of China and India is excluded, there are more females than males in the rest of the world.

In many parts of the world some parents aren't happy when their child is born a girl. In many cultures more than one girl in a family is dreaded. Some fathers, husbands and boyfriends have abandoned their families and daughter because they prefer having sons. My own husband abandoned his daughter with his second wife to be a step father for another woman's son.

Sadly these same men that dread having a girl child are the same ones that chase women for sex. Oddly enough there is no shortage of men chasing women for sex. Sexual assault, defilement and rape of the girl child is prevalent all over the world. Girls aren't even safe attending churches and religious institutions.

Education for Girls -

In many parts of the world girls are unable to obtain an education due to many factors. Some of those are inability to obtain sanitary napkins during times of menstruation, many girls have admitted to having to use rags. In African countries the rising prices of packaged disposable sanity napkins have increased significantly. Speaking from personal experience in African countries the packages are also too small, they don't have enough to last even 2 days.

According to UNESCO estimates, around the world, 129 million girls are out of school, including 32 million of primary school age, and 97 million of secondary school age.

Globally, primary, and secondary school enrollment rates are getting closer to equal for girls and boys (90% male, 89% female). But while enrollment rates are similar - in fact, two-thirds of all countries have reached gender parity in primary school enrollment - completion rates for girls are lower in low-income countries where 63% of female primary school students complete primary school, compared to 67% of male primary school students. In low-income countries, secondary school completion rates for girls also continue to lag, with only 36% of girls completing lower secondary school compared to 44% of boys. Upper secondary completion rates have similar disparities in lower income countries, the rate is 26% for young men and 21% for young women.

Child Marriages -

With the rise of food prices and the costs of living, many girls are being forced into child marriages. In cultures where the dowry is still practiced, families need to money or gifts from the grooms family. Child marriages sadly are usually a girl is forced to marry an older man. According to statistics child marriages have gone up while boys are being forced to quit school to obtain work.

Sexual assault and sexual violence is also an issue, even in schools at the hands of teachers. In Ghana, West Africa there were videos circulating of teachers having sex with a SHS (Senior high school) student under the age of 17 years old. Men went to social media to blame the girl for having a high sex drive, none cared that she is a child and these teachers are adults. Only one teacher was arrested and no further information was ever reported about the others.

There is Gender Based Violence towards girls and women. Another disgusting phenomenon prevalent all over the world as well. Again it's almost as if men hate woman altogether. Being born a female is the hardest thing in life, then add race and social class, which separates women and girls further. When girls and women need to stand together to eliminate the stigma of being born a girl.
