Nigerian singer Joeboy blew up massively in 2021 when his song "Sip (Alcohol)" became a worldwide phenomenon. The song trended everywhere thanks to social media challenges, radio plays, organic circulation, etc. "Sip" was a monster hit! But then, since that song in 2021, Joeboy has not released another song that has gotten to that same level of success, although he is now gearing up for the release of his second studio album.

During a new interview with Pulse, Joeboy opened up about not having another big hit since 2021, his love life, social media, and more. Here is what the very talented singer had to say.

Speaking about not having any major hit since 2021's "Sip (Alcohol)", about music metrics, fan comparisons, streaming numbers, etc, Joeboy said:

JOEBOY: 2022 was an experimental period for me where I just tried out different things. While the songs I released didn't reach the level I am known for, it didn't bother me because I don't make songs with the intentions of making a hit song.

I don't really care about these things [metrics, streaming numbers, and accolades]. It's not that I don't appreciate the numbers or I'm not grateful for them. I'm just not obsessed with it like other artists so I don't see the need to flaunt them. For me, after one song, my mind is on the next.

You know, I don't bother about such things. People will always classify me based on what they perceive or based on their metrics for success. At the end of the day, I know who I am, what I have achieved, and where I belong.

When asked if he thinks being more active on social media could help with his career, Joeboy said:

JOEBOY: I don't care for these things. I see everything people tweet and say online. I don't care about chasing clout. I let my music do the talking but I understand that fans will demand more from me and I will have to do what I can to put myself out there more.

When asked if maybe an international collaboration is the thing he's missing, Joeboy said:

JOEBOY: It's inevitable. It's one of those things that will happen sooner or later. We all just have to wait to see how it will unfold. At the end of the day, I'm my only competition

I'm very intentional about those I work with so every artist you see on my album was selected because they add something special to the music.

Then speaking about his constant singing of love songs and his own personal love life, Joeboy opened up saying:

JOEBOY: My mission is to change the narrative of this toxic love everyone is singing about these days. I don't like this whole idea that love must be perfect or this glamorization of toxic love. Love comes with challenges and it's far from perfect, and this is something I want to communicate with this album. I have been in a relationship for about two years. I don't care. Why can't I have a girlfriend? Is having one woman not better than whoring around? Her identity will continue to remain unknown. Everyone can continue to wonder who she is.
