Finding Solitude
A peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life
As the sun began to set, Emma watched as the sky transformed into a watercolor painting of reds, pinks, and oranges. She breathed in the salty sea air and closed her eyes, relishing the feeling of the sand between her toes. She was surprised at how soft it was compared to the rocky beaches she was used to back home.
“Emma, come on! We need to get going!” her sister called from the shore, interrupting her moment of bliss.
Emma opened her eyes and turned to see her sister gesturing impatiently. She sighed and made her way back to the beach towels, where her sister was already packing up their things.
“We have to hurry if we want to catch the boat to the island,” her sister said, stuffing a bottle of sunscreen into her bag.
“I know, I know,” Emma replied, rolling her eyes. “I just wanted to enjoy the beach a little longer.”
Her sister huffed, “We’re here to explore, not laze around.”
They rushed to the pier, where a small boat was waiting for them. Emma’s heart raced as they boarded, the water churning below them as the engine started up. She had never been to an island before, and the thought of being surrounded by nothing but the sea and sand filled her with excitement.
As they approached the island, Emma felt a sense of peace wash over her. The island was small and uninhabited, save for a few palm trees and some crabs scuttling across the sand. They wandered along the shoreline, collecting shells and watching as the waves lapped at their feet.
Emma bent down to pick up a particularly pretty shell, and was surprised at how soft the sand was beneath her hands. She dug her fingers into the sand, letting it slip through her fingers like an hourglass.
“Look at this one!” her sister exclaimed, holding up a large, spiral shell. “It’s perfect.”
Emma smiled, “It’s beautiful.”
As they continued their walk, Emma couldn’t help but feel grateful for this moment of solitude. She felt like she was in her own little world, with nothing but the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun on her skin. She was surprised at how much she was enjoying this adventure, even though she wasn’t much of an outdoorsy person.
As they made their way back to the boat, Emma paused to take in the view one last time. The sun was setting, casting the sky in a golden glow. She felt a pang of sadness at the thought of leaving this tranquil place, but also a sense of gratitude for the experience.
As they rode the boat back to the mainland, Emma couldn’t stop smiling. She was surprised at how much she had enjoyed their little adventure, and couldn’t wait to see what else the world had in store for her.
Emma's Island Adventure
As the sun began to set
Emma watched the sky transform
Reds, pinks, and oranges painted the scene
The salty sea air filling her lungs
With eyes closed, she relished the sand
Soft and warm, unlike home's rocky shore
But her sister called, it was time to go
Their island adventure awaited, Emma's heart soared
Excitement bubbled as they boarded the boat
The churning water below, a thrill unknown
The island's peace washed over Emma
A small place, palm trees and crabs the only show
They wandered along the shoreline
Collecting shells and watching the waves
Emma dug her fingers into the sand
Like an hourglass, it slipped away
Her sister held up a perfect shell
Emma smiled, it was beautiful indeed
Grateful for this moment of solitude
She felt content, like a traveler's creed
As they made their way back to the mainland
The sun set casting a golden glow
A pang of sadness for leaving
But gratitude for the adventure began to grow
Emma couldn't stop smiling
Their little island adventure, a delight
She couldn't wait to see what else the world
Had in store for her, to explore and take flight.
