Reverend Henry Kane
When I think about my favorite horror movie I consider many things. I look at the storyline and feel that plot as well as a strong cast of characters is important. As for the scare factor since we are talking about horror here I need to be terrified. Combining these factors, my choice for all time ultimate slasher/thriller is the Poltergeist trilogy from the 1980’s. My focus is one particular character; the Reverend Henry Kane.

A Filmmaker's Review: "The Invisible Man" (2020)
“The Invisible Man” is probably best remembered as one of the scariest Sci-Fi novels of all time. By HG Wells and concerning a man who turns himself invisible and then has trouble turning himself back, it shows the descent of the human mind in knowing that they cannot be held accountable for their actions. Over the years, it has been adapted many, many times and some of them have been very successful and it has even been adapted indirectly such as in the film “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” (fun fact: that was one of my favourite movies as a child!). “The Invisible Man” was an amazing book turned into some amazing movies, but this one was not one of them. Let us investigate why.

A Nightmare On Elm Street Directed by Wes Craven is the best slasher film of all time because it gave us Freddy Krueger, Tina, and Nancy. Also a bunch of human emotions like being afraid, laughing so hard, and just loving the hell out of it. These three characters I mentioned are the most iconic characters who are apart of the franchise.

Why Scream Is The Best Horror Movie of All Time

The original movie was made 1996 during the time people were familiar with many other slasher films. Not only does this film have a good plot it shares some of the most memorable characters. Every Halloween I watch this movie just for more chills every time I see it. The main character Sydney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell; is being terrorized by a masked serial killer killing her friends one by one. Wes Craven gives up one of his best opening scenes with Actor Drew Berrymore playing Casey Becker. The opening scene that caused everyone to be afraid of answering their phones for a long time. Personally I was always terrified of being home alone and making popcorn after watching this film for the first time. As people start to be murdered we are introduced to the masked killer himself called Ghost Face. We are also introduced to the characters and the protagonist Sydney Prescott. Wes Craven also gave us the idea that Sydney has a dark past and is making an effort to live as a normal teen girl. Her and her friends are completely aware a serial killer is targeting them as their friend they knew was murdered. The police and news reporters are questioning if it has something to do with Sydney even though the audience can tell she is distressed from the killer.

For a college student housing is perhaps one of the biggest concerns, apart from food, thus this is where we find college student Maria (Angelique Sabrina White, Blood of Drago) and fellow roommate Ricky (Ricky Cruz, Through Troubled Waters) in Roommate Wanted from director Michael McCartney (The Rap). It is a horror flick with streaks of comedy, the majority of humor stemming from Ricky and his girlfriend Lucy (Isabela Valotti, 5150).

The Evil Dead
It took me a very long time to consider which movie out of all my favorites to write about, but after some thought and a commercial from the amc channel, I had an epiphany to write about one of my favorite horror classics the Evil Dead. I know, cliché right? But the movie carries a lot of sentimental value to me, I still remember the very first time I watched the original when I was a little girl. It gave me nightmares for days! My mother used to have the VHS tape of it and one day I remember popping it in out of curiosity. My mom started my love for horror young, we used to stay up late at night and watched something scary on the SCI-FI channel or something we would pick out on redbox together for Halloween. It was our way of bonding. She had a box of old VHS tapes circa de 2005, 2006. (Sailor moon, Pokémon to name a few!) including my now top five favorites, the Evil Dead. I could never get past a certain scene, the part where Ash was standing near a window and the witch came in and stabbed him in the ankle with a pencil, I would always turn off the tv and run to my room shaking! I felt as if the witch were coming to get me next and snatch me out of my bedroom. I stayed awake watching the darkness of my bedroom for hours until I passed out from exhaustion. Sometimes I would try to rewatch it all the way through but I never could, until I got older. It gave me chilling nightmares for years! I will always remember the witch’s horrible tormented face.But then that’s the fun and the joy of horror movies, the fear, the anxiety, the adrenaline rush, the feeling of not knowing what’s going to happen next, the plot twists and turns, the horrible, demonic evil looking people and creatures along with the blood and gore of course! So as you can imagine I was delighted to learn of an Evil Dead remake, I made it my priority to watch it as soon as I could. My sister and I went to the AMC theater to watch it as soon as it came out. I love horror movies, but I can be a huge baby when I see a really scary one for the first time and I’ll watch it through half shut eyes the entire time! So I only remember the second time watching it. The second time was one of my favorite memories because I remember inviting my best friend over to watch it with me gushing about it to her telling her how great it was! So one day after school, her my sister and I all watched the movie together. It was the best, even better than the first time I watched because I could see things from a different perspective, notice the things I didn’t see before the first time I watched. By the end of the movie we all had our favorite scenes and lines that made us laugh or scared us the most. One of our favorite insider jokes stems from a scene where the demon traps the main character’s girlfriend in the trap door and to this day we’ll all randomly say “HE’S NOT GOING TO LET YOU LEAVE!”. And we’ll all giggle in secrecy. But more than anything I enjoyed just the pure violence throughout the movie, I loved how the producer made me feel as if I were the one being bludgeoned to death! The part that really made my teeth grind and my palms sweat was when Ash’s best friend Eric was being tortured to death by Ash’s now zombified girlfriend Natalie. He was shot several times with a nail gun in his hand and hit with a crow bar a couple of times and I swear I felt every blow. To this day I still can’t watch that scene without turning my head or watching through closed eyes. My third favorite scenes was when Mia fought the Devil. My god I could feel when the rusty blade ran through her thigh as he stabbed through the wall trying to kill her. I felt her fear and panic as she tried to escape, I was never more terrified, especially the part where she had to rip off her own hand getting stuck under the car, it made me root for Mia even more. Because who wants Satan to actually rise up and ruin life as we know it? The Evil Dead will forever have a special place in my heart.

Freddy Is My Slasher Boyfriend
Growing up in the 80s and 90s we were lucky. We had freedom to go where we wanted and do what we wanted as long as we were home by the time the 5 O'Clock whistle blew. At least in small town midwest like where I grew up. We played outside, rode our bikes and went to the pool alone, without a care in the world. We also had "Friday the 13th"'s Jason Vorhees, Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Leatherface, Halloween's Mike Myers and the all time best in my opinion A Nighmare on Elm Streets Freddy Kruger.

Brandon Cronenberg Makes His Daddy Proud with ‘Possessor’
“Cronenbergian” pertains to the twisted works of filmmaker David Cronenberg, specifically his graphic depictions of bodily mutations. A film scholar might take offense at this simplification, referencing his common themes of sexuality, the morphing of modern technology with our daily lives, and humanity’s inability to comprehend reality objectively. But when it comes to popular culture, Cronenberg is largely famous for being one of the originators of “body horror”. People remember him through the glorious head-explosion seen in Scanners, James Woods growing a vagina in his stomach in Videodrome, or Jeff Goldblum transforming into a humanoid housefly in, you guessed it, The Fly. It has even sparked a famous episode of Rick and Morty, where Rick accidentally creates a hideous race of human beings referred to as “Cronenbergs”.
