Andy Serkis’ Caesar: Ten Years of ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’
This month marked ten years since one of the last decades’ most beloved characters first swung onto the big screen. In Rise of the Planet of the Apes we saw the birth of Andy Serkis’ Caesar, a chimp who was taken from a laboratory to avoid being put down after his mother, in an act of defense, went on a rampage throughout the facility. This film presented itself in a very unique way for those who are familiar with the Planet of the Apes franchise. It was modern, set in contemporary times, and in a stark difference to the films that preceded it, did not utilize makeup and prosthetics for the look of the Apes. This film is notorious for being one that surprised audiences back in the summer of 2011. After the poor reception of Tim Burton’s 2001 Planet of the Apes, this film and the franchise overall did not have a high amount of energy and excitement going for it. The best way to describe the production and release of this film is acknowledging that it faced a clear uphill battle towards greatness and audience acceptance.
MovieBabblePublished 3 years ago in GeeksMy Review of "He's All That"
He's All That is a 2021 movie remake of the 1999 movie "She's All That." I fondly remember watching the older 1999 version years ago and I was curious how this one turned out. Looking back at the old 1999 version of the film, I do recognize that it wasn't a great movie, however I'm looking for the charm that the original had. At least with some charm this movie can hold it's own right?

On the verge of having her first child, Sarah McHale (Mouna Traoré) is having doubts about delivering her baby in a hospital. So despite the reservations of her husband Kevin (Michael Xavier) and her doctor Dr. Daveroux (Tanya Clarke), Sarah decides to go about hiring a midwife to assist her with a home birth. She seems to find the perfect candidate in Rose Hammond (Raven Dauda), a dedicated and experienced midwife who runs her business alongside her daughter Anne (Bukola Walfall). Professional and compassionate to her worries, Rose quickly charms Sarah and is hired on to help Sarah through the final phase of her pregnancy.
Trevor WellsPublished 3 years ago in GeeksI Really Wanted To Like 'Sierra Burgess Is A Loser'
Originally published on Odyssey Online When I first saw the trailer for Netflix's "Sierra Burgess Is A Loser", I was excited. I was excited to see a female lead that didn't fit typical beauty standards (although Shannon Purser is still gorgeous), and the cast looked great. I was expecting a movie that was progressive and forward thinking, and something that would speak to higher truths about social media and modern high school life.
Alisan KeeseePublished 3 years ago in GeeksNetflix binge: Outlander
Claire Randall is a British Army nurse in World War II, and decides together with her husband Frank Randall (an aspiring Oxford historian), to re-do their honeymoon in Scotland to celebrate the end of the war in 1945. When visiting Craig Na Dun, a stone circle similar to - but a lot smaller than - Stonehenge, Claire is suddenly transported back into time to the year 1743. An English woman in the Scottish Highlands in the middle of the 18th century, what could possibly go wrong?
PAW Patrol
What’s your emergency? The PAW Patrol is on a roll! Puppy Power Baby! Our story starts in Adventure Bay where Gus (voice over by Tyler Perry) is driving to deliver his important load of maple syrup from Canada. After a mishap he is forced to swerve and winds up hanging from a suspension bridge. His only hope of rescue is Adventure Bay’s Emergency Response Team! The PAW Patrol with Ryder the lead, and puppies Chase, Marshal, Rubble, Rocky, Zuma, (my particular favorite puppy being a Navy veteran of Desert Storm), and Skye.

Rakshit ShahPublished 3 years ago in GeeksLestat the Musical: a Postmortem Broadway Review
If you’re an Anne Rice purist, Lestat the Musical (based off of the “Vampire Chronicles” series of novels) might not be for you. If, on the other hand, you like your shambling legions of the undead gay and belting out the pop music of Elton John, you might find the show engaging.
Reminiscence misses.
Reminiscence was the latest day and date release that didn't even make a Dent at the domestic box office. It doesn't have high critical scores and has basically no word of mouth among casual audience. The silent killers in today's Cinematic landscape. Was it that bad of a movie?
Reel VibesPublished 3 years ago in GeeksMy Review of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Disney)"
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Disney) is a beautifully animated movie from 1996. This movie may be 25 years old but the visuals are still breathtaking when watched today. For a Disney film I was expecting a simple story but there's a lot of elements to this movie that I didn't expect. There are a lot of pretty heavy subjects that they touch upon but aren't absolutely obvious to everyone.
Brian AnonymousPublished 3 years ago in GeeksReview: Free Guy
During the course of the pandemic I have genuinely missed sitting in the cinema with my snacks to watch a film on the big screen, legit the last film I saw in cinemas before the pandemic was Parasite. So when cinemas opened up again my friend and I jumped at the chance to see Black Widow which was incredible. However a few weeks later we found ourselves struggling for choice with only three films being shown at our local cinema which ultimately led us to taking a chance on Free Guy. We both had vague recollections of the trailer of the film and figured we couldn't really go wrong with Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer so what's the worst that could happen? Sometimes going into a film screening with no expectations is a good thing because we were not expecting Free Guy to blow us away like it did.
Grace LynchPublished 3 years ago in GeeksSafety Not Guaranteed - A Movie Review
If we’re going to time travel, you have to have a reason to go back. Safety Not Guaranteed traveled into theaters in 2012. A team of journalists is given the assignment to invest in a man’s time travel ad. This experiment gives everyone a chance to be happy about their lives.
