The Odyssey Left Me Scratching My Head
I love Greek mythology, and I have for a very long time. I’ve read The Iliad and The Odyssey, some other works like The Oresteia and Metamorphoses, retellings like The Song of Achilles and Circe, and I’ve read every single Percy Jackson book there is. I’ve studied ancient history both in school and on my own time. I was known to include allusions to Grecian history in nearly all my writing back in high school. All of that is to say that when it comes to Greek mythology I know my way around the tales.

The Big Book Review: "The Big Screen" by David Thomson (Pt.1)
Sorry about the lateness, this one went through a LONG editing process... Welcome back to 'The Big Book Review' and now that Thinking, Fast and Slow is over, we are moving on to a favourite of mine that I once read whilst in university some years' ago - David Thomson's The Big Screen. It is a book about the history of the movies and we will be following the 'parts' the book is split into (with some splitting of the first since it is so long). The first section is entitled The Shining Light and the Huddled Masses and goes back and forth over the USA and Europe to analyse how movies were born and why. We will be covering the chapters A Cheap Form of Entertainment all the way to France. That is the first eight chapters.

Doctor Who Is A Lie!. Top Story - July 2026.
How dare they! I have been following this series since I was a young GenXer in the early 80s (the sweet spot for true fans of the shows), and discovered the adventures of the Time Lord and his companions stopping at various sites and spots, solving disasters and rescuing people, aliens and civilizations that often deserved their uninterrupted fate. That might sound cynical, but it does not take a genius to understand that there is an obvious pattern of the shows that no longer really works.

Disclosure Day Movie Review
For more than fifty years, Steven Spielberg has been one of the biggest names in the movie-making business. The director has also maintained his fascination with extra-terrestrial life, putting out E.T, Close Encounters and War of the Worlds through the decades. He returns to the subject of alien visitors with Disclosure Day, an intriguing but ultimately ineffective outing.

Does Everything Need A Movie Adaptation?
It seems like every year, every season at this point, there’s a new movie adaptation. Sometimes it’s from a book, other times a game, but the fact of the matter is the stories aren’t really original. After all, it’s not like the writers or directors came up with the idea themselves. There’s plenty of creative liberty taken – see the How to Train Your Dragon movie versus the original books for example – but it still leaves me sighing in the end.
