Brad Pitt’s Heart of the Beast Is a War Film Without a Battlefield
Heart of the Beast does not fit a genre. It was sold as a wilderness survival story, but it has none of the rising crises that shape that genre. It was sold as a man-and-dog tearjerker, but director David Ayer avoids every easy sentimental move. It stars Brad Pitt, yet it is almost wordless and built like a one-man show. A Douban review put it well: “It doesn’t work if you look at it on its own. A commercial film with almost no plot, thin and bland. But as the reunion between David Ayer and Pitt after Fury , among Ayer’s films of the past twelve years, this is surprisingly the most watchable, the one that most resembles a normal movie.”

Hogwarts does not work like a Muggle school. Attendance is not compulsory. Families can teach children at home. Ron learned reading, writing, and basic magic from the Weasleys before he ever set foot in the castle. The school’s diploma is a record that you finished seven years, passed O.W.L.s in fifth year, and passed N.E.W.T.s in seventh year.

Two Things You Probably Care About Most First, this film's relationship to the Resident Evil games is roughly the same as your relationship to your online gaming handle: same name, vaguely similar soul, but the things you actually do are completely different. Leon, Claire, Jill, Chris. None of them show up. The protagonist is a medical courier named Bryan.

The Steamed-Bun Face: When Filler Stops Leaving
Zhou Yangqing made a joke on a talk show. She said her face had become "mantou"-like: a steamed bun, the plain white kind. The audience laughed. Some people watching at home did not.
