What a mind melting season. There was a lot to love about this series.

WandaVision: Season 1 came out quite surprisingly in early 2021. Not a lot was known about this series and it came abruptly since it was very quiet on the Marvel Universe front for quite a while. This series helped satiate a lot of Marvel fan's appetite for new content. Again the series was kept under secrecy so no one really knew what was going to happen.

I reviewed the first two episodes as they were quite different from what we're used to when it comes to the Marvel cinematic universe. The two episodes resembled old sitcom TV shows from the 50s and 60's. As the episodes continued we saw the series continue to go through the decades up until present time. The mimicry of the old TV sitcoms worked surprisingly well. I thought a few of the jokes were pretty funny and the whole premise was pretty fun.

Although with each proceeding episode there would be a layer of the actual story revealed. The sitcom references have significance to Wanda's past that will later be explained. The weird stuff that happens throughout the show help reveal the truth of what is really going on. I loved the intrigue that this show gave me each week. It gave me something to think and talk about with others. It's a call back to the time when we had watercooler conversations for shows like Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones when they had weekly episodic adventures. So having a new WandaVision episode once a week was a pretty good idea on multiple fronts.

I even like the name WandaVision. It actually took me a while to realize that it was a play on the old naming TV naming convention and how it's about the relationship between Wanda and Vision.

There are a number of big things that happen throughout the season that will keep fans on their feet. There are a ton of callbacks to some of the old characters from previous Marvel movies. One of the cameos in particular got my hopes up for a huge crossover possibility but they kind of played it off by the end of the season. It was too bad but they did get me excited for the possibilities that could have happened.

New characters were also introduced with this show. Unfortunately it seems a lot of the events in this series are pretty self contained. It's a mystery whether they'll have detailed callbacks to this TV series in later movies and TV shows. It's too bad because a few of the things they added to this show were pretty innovative and was a nice change of pace from what we're used to in the Marvel universe.

I loved the fact that they had a play on our understanding of what is reality and what isn't. There are a few philosophical discussions closer to the end of the show. It went a lot deeper than I thought it would and I find that a welcome addition to Marvel shows.

A few of the fun questions that I had in regards to the characters were even addressed. They weren't totally answered but at least the writers know what we're talking about. For example they even make a reference as to Wanda losing her Sokovian accent and kept on gaining new accents. There are a few other references that they talk about and it's just fun that they're fully aware of themselves and let us know it too.

That's not to say there aren't any questionable things that happen in this series. There are a number of questions that pop up that don't seem to be answered by the end of the season. In fact some of the events of the finale kind of created more questions but some of these events are done on purpose. They have to leave us wanting more right?

Overall, I had a great time with this TV series. I really hope they continue with this series because it brought up my expectations and it kept on surpassing it with each episode. If this is any indication as to the direction of how Marvel TV shows on Disney plus are going to be portrayed then sign me up. I'm all for more TV series of this high caliber. I have to give this season of WandaVision an 8.5 out of 10. It was a really entertaining show and I think fans of the Marvel universe have to check it out.
