Netflix's Work It Review
"You illuminated the shit out of this place." I will be the very first person to admit that I love me a good coming-of-age story mixed with a rom-com. Add dancing, cute friendships and a good cast, and I'm all in.
Cassandra RyanPublished 4 years ago in GeeksGravitation by Maki Murakami
How I came across it? I've been into anime and manga since I was a child. In my teenage years, my manga passion exploded, and Gravitation was the first manga series that I really read and got into. Also one of the first I completed and read across all twelve volumes. Around the time I got into it in the early 2000s, Eiri and Shuichi were one of the most iconic couples at the time. It mixes dark character backstories with slapstick humour. It was the first media I consumed that honestly had LGBTQ+ characters and I was very hooked in the series.

Cheryl E PrestonPublished 4 years ago in GeeksEmbarking on an Anime Journey
Growing up I was never a fan of anime. It wasn’t until 2 years ago that I decided to take a deep dive and see why the anime community is obsessed. I started with Naruto and started making my way through all the most popular anime series. With just a few shows, I realized everything that I’ve been missing in life. I needed to consume more.

Jack thomsonPublished 4 years ago in Geeks'An American Pickle' Review - Seth Rogen Comedy Film Is Fun But Predictable
This review will be spoiler-free for a time, and then there will be a spoiler warning toward the end. An American Pickle is a comedy film that has just been released as an HBO Max original. Written by Simon Rich and based on his short story “Sell Out,” this Brandon Trost-directed film features Seth Rogen in two roles. Reading the premise of the film is enough to entice a viewer to check it out. The film starts in 1919, with Rogen playing an Ashkenazi Jew named Herschel Greenbaum, who, along with his wife Sarah, eventually emigrates from Schlupsk, Eastern Europe to New York City. One day, while on the job, he falls into a vat of pickles and is brined for a century. (Yes, he became a pickle, in a sense, but he does not literally become a pickle like Rick Sanchez. And anyway, Rogen has already played a talking hot dog.)
Culture SlatePublished 4 years ago in GeeksKelly Monaco reaches out to followers on Instagram
Kelly Monaco has finally addressed her situation by going on Instagram. Viewers were stunned last week when Monaco's mother announced that she was in quarantine for two weeks. Camina Monico assured General Hospital devotees that her daughter had passed two COVID-19 tests along with a screening and did not have the coronavirus. This did not stop speculation because a week prior to this an alleged trusted source revealed that two female cast members on the ABC daytime drama were indeed COVID positive and it was suggested that one of them was Kelly Monaco.

Jessica HarveyPublished 4 years ago in GeeksMidnight Sun: Spoiler Free Review
Midnight Sun is one of the most anticipated novels of this year. A return to the Twilight universe? From Edward’s point of view? Say no more. I was jumping up and down when I pre-ordered my copy. I read it immediately and raced through this mammoth of a book. I can't stop thinking about it.
"The Hours" by Michael Cunningham
I did not get around to reading this until I was twenty-two years’ old and yet, it was a great book and I found the experience almost overwhelming. I was actually reading it for university and because I had to, but for some years before - one of my friends had been recommending it to me for an awfully long time and I had not actually read it off their recommendation (I’m pretty sure that annoyed her, but at least I eventually read it!). When I first read it, I was sitting bored out of my mind in a class on historical theories of western philosophy and someone was talking about Schopenhauer to which I thought ‘what is the point? we are all just going to die anyway…’ (laughs in Schopenhauer). Unfortunately enough, I’d already read the text on western philosophy that we were studying some years before and so, I began a new text, zoned out and thanked god that there were a lot of other students in the class. “The Hours” by Michael Cunningham was one of the greatest and most beautifully post-modern books I’d read since “Cloud Atlas” by David Mitchell. All about the great influence of Virginia Woolf on the lives after and considerably similar to her own, this book covers the lives of three women that are about to become intertwined only in their own experiences of womanhood, grief, goodness and their want to be more than themselves. I was fascinated by the language and even though I wasn’t a huge fan of the movie, I was definitely a huge fan of the book that was written like a symphony. It is truly a masterpiece of post-modern fiction. My first reading experience at twenty-two was well worth it and I often thank god that I left it for as long as I did. I thoroughly believe in reading books at the right time in order to get the right experience and this was definitely one of those books you need to do that with. It has such incredible atmosphere, the characters are so thorough and beautiful and the way in which it is written has such incredible description. It is one of the best written books of the last twenty years and yet, not many people I know have actually read it. Even the other people on my course didn’t seem to bother. I have no idea why - it was an amazing book.
