The Wicked King
Writing: 4/5 Character: 5/5 World: 4.5/5 Plot: 5/5 Thoughts: The cruel prince wasn’t my favourite book in the world, but the wicked king is a whole other story! The world builds in this story focusing much more on political intrigue which carries the bulk of the story’s plot. The plot in this book took twist and turns, some of which I guessed easily and some of which I never saw coming! For me, it was the perfect balance. However, the characters and their bonds is what made me love the books and I didn’t feel the plot overshadowed the characters. I loved watching the characters develop and where each one was bad in the cruel prince they only got that much more wicked. Jude and Cardan’s relationship is not all that healthy, and there are definitely some things that happen that I wish were either held off or wish it was done differently, but I will say their dynamic is interesting to read. I can’t wait to see what happens with them in the final instalment of this trilogy. My problems with the first book thankfully, didn’t apply to this book. I actually liked the perspective in this book and while the writing wasn’t amazing it improved. I’m really glad I powered through the first book because this book was SO worth it!

In the Beginning
Most mornings Eve woke to the memory of walking across the fog dusted freshly cut grass, the sunrise muffled behind waves of clouds. The punch of the breeze battling the humidity made her eyes water, and the leaves swayed in a hushed hiss. She remembered the warmth of steaming coffee pressed against her lips, as she listened to her father play soft melodies at the piano bench. She recalled breathing the air of warm water drops cascading from the shower head and the quiet light that sung through the windows. She relished the scent of rain beating against warm pavement, the simplicity in the joy that rainbows brought. She missed the days she spent peacefully cloud deciphering and the nights she spent wistfully star gazing.

The Impression of Light
Penny leaned on the doorframe, assessing the room. Lira had a way of bringing the forest green walls of her room to life, like flowers blooming for the sun. Since she’d been gone, the walls sulked in their intended darkness. That was Penny’s favourite thing about her sister. Lira had this power; she could revive anything with a smile or find that which lingered in the dark and coax it back to the light again. It was as if Lira sucked up all the darkness so that light could exist. Penny had a different kind of power, one that relied mostly mostly on disrupting natural order. She was the darkness and Lira seemed to be the only anchor in her storm of chaos.

When a Stranger Knocks
By: Jessica Harvey Her hair was as chaotic as the glossy black heels strapped to her ankle. She couldn’t quite remember what time he was supposed to pick her up at. She hoped she’d at least gotten the day right. Most of her life was based off guesses, gambles, and shots in the dark. A tinnier part of her life was ruled by simple reprieves, like sleeping late into the morning, or times when she was lucky enough to catch an empty elevator.

Washington Square Park
It was his second night in New York City. Morale was running low. He’d lost his wallet at some club around 12:38. After some time, in the search for his wallet he had lost his phone. After being lost for what felt like eons, but was probably only an hour or two, he’d lost his hope as well. He grew up in a small town which meant his navigating skills were about as good as any other average persons since the creation of iPhones.
