Marla Adams then and now.

Fans of The Young and the Restless are excited that new episodes will begin on Monday August 10. The Abbotts and Newman’s will be up to their necks in drama as they all deal with their current situations. Dina’s death is looming and will affect them all but in the meantime everyone will be battling their own personal demons. Summer willl let Phyllis and Nick know how she really feels about their romantic reunion and unless something has changed she is not in favor of her parents hooking up. There will also be some type of tension between Summer and Kyle as well. These two just recently got back together and already there is trouble for paradise.

Nikki is going to try to broker peace with her family but will fail miserably. Victor and Chelsea will unite to save Adam from himself as he tries to find proof he did not commit murder when he was a young boy. Theo might be offered a job at Chancellor which will no doubt cause friction between Billy, Jack and Kyle. Dina is going to need her family so they will have to find a way to straighten up for her sake. Ashley will return to Genoa City and perhaps along with Traci might be able to keep the Abbott clan together.

The first post COVID Y&R programming, however, will not be shown until Tuesday. Mondays’s episode was taped before production shut down. Viewers are excited to be able to watch fresh action after months of reruns. There is one storyline, however, that no one wants to see but it must reach its conclusion. Dina Mergeron’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease will soon come to an end. The Abbott matriarch was not shown much in the days leading up to the hiatus. The last time she was truly lucid was on Christmas when she joined in with her family as they were singing O Come all Ye Faithful,

Spoilers from Soaps.com indicate that next week when Ashley returns to Genoa City she will help her siblings find a memento of Dina’s days with John Abbott. This may probably jog her memory for a moment, but fans realize thetr is no coming back from this ordeal. Marla Adams has done a wonderful job portraying someone with dementia and fans don’t want to say goodbye. There is no cure at this time for Alzheimer’s disease so Dina will not obtain a last minute reprieve. This situation mirrors a similar storyline on General Hospital where Max Gail portrays Mike Corbin who has Alzheimer’s. The viewers love the actor and his character but there is no alternative except for death.

Dina returned to Genoa City knowing her medical diagnosis but kept it quit and her children were Intitaly unaware. Since the truth came out Dina has had many troubles as is normal for those with this form of dementia. Madame Mergeron had been estranged from her children because she left them with their father in order to pursue her career. There was tension with Ashley who had a hard time with the fact that John Abbott was not her biological father. It also came out that Dina, eho was dating John, at the time. slept with Stewart Brooks on the night of the senior prom. She later gave birth to a son that she put up for adoption. It was revealed not long ago that her child was raised as Eric Vanderway and his son Theo had at one time bern Kyle’s best friend.

It had been stated that COVID regulations required actors over age 65 could not be allowed to tape scenes immediately but 79 year old Eric Braeden was one of the first to return to The Young and the Restless set. It’s not yet known when 81 year old Marla Adams will return but if her children are going to giver an heirloom it’s probably pretty soon. No details have been given but Dina will probably pass away with her family by her side. Naturally Jack, Traci, and Ashley will be by here. Abby, Kyle, Summer, and Theo might also be close by. It’s also not clear big Dina is still in the family home or has gone back to facility.

Spoilers have teased that Theo might get under Kyle’s skin by trying see Dina before she passes and the two will begin arguing out their grandma.. This will no doubt cause Jack much emotional turmoil as he just wants his mother’s final days to be in peace. He will probably demand that Dina’s grandsons stop fighting and get along. Ashley and Traci will not desire any conflict either and Summer and Lola might also weigh in. Be sure to tune in next week and watch all of this play out. Dina’s death will rock Genoa City so be sure to catch Marla Adams and her finale episodes.
