Byran FerrolPublished 4 years ago in GeeksBrokeback Mountain (2005)
In this article, we will be looking at 2019’s book “1001 Movies to See Before You Die” and going through each film in a random order that I have chosen. We will be looking at what constitutes this film to be on the list and whether I think this film deserves to be here at all. I want to make perfectly clear that I won’t be revealing details from this book such as analyses by film reporters who have written about the film in question, so if you want the book itself you’ll have to buy it. But I will be covering the book’s suggestions on which films should be your top priority. I wouldn’t doubt for a second that everyone reading this article has probably watched many of these movies anyway. But we are just here to have a bit of fun. We’re going to not just look at whether it should be on this list but we’re also going to look at why the film has such a legacy at all. Remember, this is the 2019 version of the book and so, films like “Joker” will not be featured in this book and any film that came out in 2020 (and if we get there, in 2021). So strap in and if you have your own suggestions then don’t hesitate to email me using the address in my bio. Let’s get on with it then.
Annie KapurPublished 4 years ago in GeeksA Filmmaker's Review: "American: The Bill Hicks Story" (2009)
Bill Hicks was, as we all know, one of the greatest comedians in human history. I personally think of him as a man who changed the face of comedy and satire forever and he was so good that people in power were actually scared of him. His comedy was intelligent and related to his time, his day and the political history in his country. When I started watching this documentary, the truth was is that I knew I needed a laugh. I needed something to laugh about and so, what better thing to watch than Bill Hicks? I didn’t know it was going to get so deep though. It starts right at the beginning with his mother talking about how she had ‘a girl, a boy and a baby’ (the baby was Bill Hicks). And now, we get introduced to his siblings who have some really touching thoughts about him. We get told stories about how he first started off in his teens as a comedian going around making sketches in his school with his friends, making people think and most importantly, making people laugh. The one thing that shocked me is that Bill Hicks started off as a clean comedian who didn’t swear on stage at all. I don’t think I have ever sat through a Bill Hicks video where he doesn’t swear for more than a minute. The thing is, Bill Hicks doesn’t use swearing to make something funny, he does it to imitate normal speech in his day in which people swear because it is the ‘new cool’ thing to do because it is satirical.
Annie KapurPublished 4 years ago in GeeksHarrison Bergeron
Literary Analysis: Harrison Bergeron Harrison Bergeron is a short story written by Kurt Vonnegut, that sets out to explain future America. The themes and symbols in this story are very strong characteristic that defines America, society, an individuality. A few symbols are Harrison Bergeron himself, because he represents freedom, that is constantly being strived for. As well as, the handicaps that illustrate chains holding the society members back, from being who they are and noise that shows how the members are mentally restrained. Themes in this story are freedom, individuality, and equality, witch perfectly describe what America was fighting for in 1961, the year this story was published.

Stephen CheshirePublished 4 years ago in GeeksPride & Prejudice Adapted
I'm not a fan of reading classics -- I'm sorry, I know the stories are classic for a reason, and I'm sure they're all very good reads! But I have a hard time motivating myself to try. I didn't read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen until my early 20s, and even then I had to immerse myself into some adaptations in order to understand the story. I tried reading it when I was 17 first, and I struggled. Fear not: I now love the story, and I'd be happy to read any of Austen's other works!

I have this ritual where I watch movies multiple times. I am a movie buff. Therefore, once a year, I watch the Godfather part 1,2 and 3. I always discover something subtle that I previously missed. There is also another movie I watch religiously, more than once a year: The Dark Knight. The 2008 masterpiece by Christopher Nolan where Batman faces his archnemesis, the Joker played by the unique, once-in-a-generation talented actor, the tremendous Heath Ledger.
Freeman BinaganaPublished 4 years ago in GeeksAn Analysis: Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone
After making some rather distasteful and transphobic comments; the support for JK Rowling has quickly dissipated. But the love for the series that made her famous still is strong. Of Course, I spoke up about these issues publicly on Tik Tok (BMiki13 if you want to watch them, and I will also be the first to admit that yea, the wording is kind of aggressive but the point behind them still stands).
