Riley Raul ReesePublished 7 years ago in FuturismMoving 'Beyond Earth'
For decades at least, the dream of a human colony moving our species beyond this planet has been a dream shared by both science fiction and science fact. It's an idea that has yet again come into vogue. Yet the question remains: how would we even set about the task and where do we go? While the popular answer seems to be the Moon or Mars, writer Charles Wohlforth and planetary Amanda Hendrix's Beyond Earth: Our Path To A New Home In The Planets seeks to answer both and propose an altogether different destination: Saturn's moon Titan.
Matthew KresalPublished 7 years ago in FuturismInterview with Author K.E. Lanning
Author K.E. Lanning is a scientist and writer—visualizing subterranean faults and those of imagined characters. As she describes, “Physics trains the mind to analyze and deduce theories, similar to developing the story line of a novel–both take creativity and hard work.” Lanning's expertise and passion for both art and science set her on a natural course towards writing science fiction. This big-picture thinker has proven proficient in the craft of making esoteric knowledge more palpable for the rest of us, and her recurring OMNI interview series In the Author’s Universe is only one of many such examples. Writing is her passion, and her upcoming novel, A Spider Sat Beside Her, weaves a story of betrayal of the human spirit and the Earth. It's about time this knowledge-excavator got some digging of her own; in advance of her debut novel, OMNI checked in with K.E Lanning for an enlightening interview about her work, writing, motivation, and worldview.

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Sean Stone (eldest son of Oliver), and the host of Buzzsaw, a series on Gaia, a member-supported conscious media company.
Felicity HarleyPublished 7 years ago in FuturismArtificial Gender Intelligence
As a western society with fairly traditional views, England as a whole has moderately outdated views on what gender is as a concept (Woods 1995). Even with progressive views speaking of non-binary people or trans people; there is still some element of binary or even a linear spectrum. When realistically gender is a performance, which yes, we already know. So how do we begin to break this down in the future?
Jam StewardPublished 7 years ago in FuturismWhat Does Being Unable To Forget Feel Like?
Whenever people hear that I’m unable to forget any day of my life, I often receive questions as to how it feels to live with all of those memories, and about whether or not my mind rests at all.
Rebecca SharrockPublished 7 years ago in FuturismThe Warp Drive: A Crash Course In Relativity
The estimates from the Hubble Telescope suggest that there are upwards of 100 billion galaxies in the universe. Each with millions upon millions of stars (the Milky Way is a smaller galaxy with around 100 billion stars), each with at least some prospective habitable planets.
Anthony PullanoPublished 7 years ago in FuturismThe Consciousness Paradox
Unlike any other species on this planet, humans develop extreme anxiety when thinking about the possibility of nothingness after death. With strong egos and attachment to the material world, ideas and theories of what comes after death and how humankind came to this land were developed. We found comfort in these thoughts, reassuring ourselves that our lives have purpose, meaning, and existence even beyond death. Humans find comfort in having purpose, for without it life seems almost meaningless... hopeless.

Riley Raul ReesePublished 7 years ago in FuturismBest Sci-Fi Cult Classics of All Time
Most people are familiar with the greatest films in the science fiction genre, but you might be hard-pressed to name any of the best sci-fi cult classics of all time. You may ask "what differentiates a cult classic from a regular old classic?" After all, both classics and cult classics have great lines, great scenes, a loyal fanbase. What's the difference?
Anthony GramugliaPublished 7 years ago in FuturismGods and Goddesses of Death in Mythology
In order for the good to be considered ‘good’, we need the binary opposite. This demand for balance is woven all throughout life, with ‘death’ being what gives life 'life'. In religion, the gods of death, who are necessary for maintaining the balance of the world, are often overlooked by those who favour life. But life is far less eternal that death. Throughout history, who have our ancestors been worshipping, and who did they believe that they would now reside with?
Charlotte WilliamsPublished 7 years ago in FuturismWhat is Zombie Fungi?
Have you ever had the thought that some humans are nothing more than a puppet on a string? I'm here to validate those thoughts. The cryptococcus fungus species can infect an organism and easily take over its brain and cause it to do things it normally wouldn't - ultimately leading to its demise. The fungus' goal is to grow and spread its spores. And this fungus LOVES your bran sugar, particularly inositol which is found in abundance in the spinal cord as well as the human brain.
