What is a Full Moon?
A full moon occurs when the sun is opposite the moon, representing the peak, or climax of the lunar cycle. Throughout history, Full Moons have been known to cause unexpected events, and strange behavior. Because the two luminaries are in opposition to one another, full moons are known to highlight any opposing forces, or polarities in your life; such as, the balance between self, and the other, the balance between the masculine and feminine, and the balance between work and home.
Full moons are also good times to reflect on where you are in life, and where you are headed. While the period between the new moon, and the full moon is a time for setting (and achieving) goals, the period between the full moon, and the next new moon is a time for letting go. Full moons can also bring about climactic events, and awaken us to powerful truths and realizations. The effects of a full moon usually last about two weeks, until the new moon comes along, and starts a new cycle.
The Full Moon in Aquarius (opposite the Sun in Leo) highlights the balance between community and individuality, the conflict between what your ego desires vs. the expectations of the world around you.
It may help to think back to whatever intentions you set around the New Moon in Leo, for they should be coming into fruition at this time, as well as six months back to Aquarius New Moon. Certain themes may be repeating themselves. Whatever thoughts or intentions you plant now should come into fruition by the New Moon in Virgo on August 30th.
Those with personal planets or angles between 16 and 28 degrees of the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) will most especially be affected by this Full Moon.
Full Moon in Aquarius
The Full Moon in Aquarius most strongly highlights the balance between community and individuality. Sometimes what our egos desire can be at odds with the greater good. Sometimes what our hearts want can be at odds with the expectations of society. What do you do? Which path do you choose? Often, societal expectations are unjust, even oppressive, in which case you should most definitely follow your heart; but there are also times when you really do need to consider the impact your actions may have on others, when expectations are put in place for a reason. I'm talking about times when acting on your ego desires could actually hurt other people. It depends on the situation, and this week, we may find ourselves in an awful dilemma. It reminds me of a quote I saw on Facebook, recently, "Yes love yourself. But also, analyze and be critical of how you think, act, and behave. Self love without self awareness is useless. Be accountable."
Additionally, Venus, and to a lesser extent Mars, will have a major impact on this Full Moon, affecting our relationships with others.
Venus will be less than one degree away from the Sun at the time of this Full Moon. This alone is a very pleasant aspect. When Venus is conjunct the Sun, we are motivated to seek out peace and harmony, solving conflicts through cooperation and diplomacy. Matters of love and romance are also given a boost. This is a great night to spend with a loved one, especially a romantic partner. However, it's important to remember that Venus is also opposite the Moon, and if single, this Full Moon could potentially make us feel extra lonely. We may feel extra motivated to seek out a new partner at this time.
The Sun and Venus make a wide conjunction to Mars at 28’17 degrees Leo. This is a very passionate aspect, very hot and steamy; but remember, that means Mars is also opposite the Moon, which could potentially indicate arguments between you and your partner.
I'm thinking that with the Sun in Leo and Moon in Aquarius, there might be issues surrounding how we define love. With Leo, love is what makes our hearts' sing. Love is whatever brings us joy and pleasure. But in this way, our lovers are like possessions, because their value is determined by however they make us feel. If someone only loves you when you're "theirs," then it's really not love then, is it? With Aquarius, love is less conditional. Aquarius is the sign of friendship, and in this way, love is less about us and our desires and more about our appreciation for and good will towards the other person. This is true love in my opinion. Love isn't something that dies out once the romance is gone. You can still love someone even if you don't want them in your life anymore, but it's a different type of love, a type of love that, when it comes to romance, some people would consider quite cold. Aquarius is known for its love of humanity as a whole, which could make some people feel like their individuality is devalued or that they're less important somehow. It's like that saying, a friend to all is a friend to none. Well, some would argue that if you love everyone, you're really loving no one. The word has lost its meaning. There's no one who really stands out, apart from everybody else; no one you feel a particular passion for, no one who makes your heart sing!
It might be that you and your partner come to the realization that your arguments stem from a difference of how you define love. Or it could be that you yourself are having trouble deciding which of these two options is really love. What kind of love do you expect from a partner? Just now, as I write this, I realize that for me it's a mix of both.
