Why Does Spanking Arouse People?

There are both physical and psychological reasons why spanking arouses people.

The psychological response to adult spanking activities is the most important element in the sexuality of this act. Much mental pre-conditioning takes place before a person is able to respond in a sexual manner to flagellation.

But no discussion of sexual spanking would be complete without our observing some facts about the physical response that takes place whenever the buttocks of an adult male or female are struck with some force.

The psychological factors behind the sexual enjoyment of spanked buttocks are really not too mysterious. The large muscles of the buttocks are closely connected with the entire sexual apparatus, in both sexes.

These gluteal muscles, as they are termed, are often brought into play during both coital and masturbatory incidents. The voluntary squeezing together of these muscles, often observed in female auto-erotic activities, most definitely can result in an orgasm, particularly if the contractions are very rhythmic. Spanking the buttocks rhythmically results in a similar reaction.

Of importance too are the involuntary contractions of the gluteal muscles that occur, on the part of the recipient, in anticipation of the blow that is about to be received. This is a natural reaction—an individual nearly always tenses some muscles in preparation for violence.

While sexually stimulating to the observing spanker, especially if the area is bare, it would appear that less damage is sustained by a pair of relaxed buttocks. Most of my patients who profess to be experienced practitioners of this activity relate that they have developed the ability to withstand severe spankings without any muscle tension whatsoever.

The buttocks of the female are particularly receptive to sexual response—the rush of blood that a brisk smack will bring to them is sufficient to stimulate an erotic reaction. The nearness of the buttocks to the vaginal entrance greatly contributes to this reaction.

In the case of the male, the nearness of the buttocks to the scrotum and the penis is an important factor in the spanking-caused erection. Blood rushing to the spanked bottom causes the male sexual organs to swell, much as they do in preparation for the orgasm.

An additional anatomical element in sexual response to spanking is the fact that the anal opening shares some muscles with the perineum—a very erogenous area between the anus and the genitalia. It is obvious that during the course of most spankings this area comes into contact with either the spanking hand or the implement that is being used to strike the buttocks.

Occasionally, depending on the size of the paddle or spanking implement, the sexual organs will be accidentally struck—this can happen with either sex as the recipient. While no damage is sustained, an immediate sexual response is often the result.

An interesting physiological phenomenon is the apparent fact that the sexual feelings induced by a spanking are either stronger than, or blot out, the presence of pain. While there may be some, physical discomfort adds to, rather than detracts from, the eroticism of this activity.

Upon attainment of the orgasm, however, the element of pain becomes the uppermost sensation in the recipient. Here the requested spanking is generally halted; Continued blows after the orgasm are indeed painful and no longer sexually-oriented, according to many of my patients.

One reason why I absolutely insist that my ass be uncovered right from the onset of the punishment session is that if I receive a swat on my slacks, or even on my panties, before proceeding to a bared bottom-well, the whole effect is spoiled.

It's spoiled simply because a paddle-swat on a protected bottom is not hard enough to hurt, in the "good" sense of the word, yet is still starts some kind of sexual response inside of me. A brisk whack on the bare rear, to get things going, brings the warmth rushing immediately to the area, and this is intensely exciting to me.

It doesn't have to be a paddle, incidentally, that gets me going. A smart hand-smack is good enough—just so it's delivered with sufficient force. But the hand is only good for about ten whacks to keep me in the right direction, if you know what I mean.

After 10 smacks, the amount of feeling in my buttocks begins to diminish. It doesn't get numb back there, I don't think my ass ever really gets numb no matter how many I get. But the skin has gradually gotten used to the smacks, after 10 hand-spanks, and a sharper, a much crisper, whack is needed. The paddle provides this nicely.

There'll be a couple of swats, then a little petting or fooling around, then two or three more smacks and a rubbing of the reddened area. Again, this happens only during our lengthy session. I'm perfectly capable of responding quickly—the whole thing can be over in as few as 10 fast ass smacks.

For example, I may have been in a glowing mood all day long; this happens during certain days of the month, and I can hardly wait for my man to get home. I've had a drink and prepared myself mentally by anticipating and concentrating on the spanking to come, so intensely that my response has already begun before he has gotten home.

I meet him at the door when he gets home. I have this little glow on, and I'm holding the paddle. There are no words spoken. On these occasions, I'm always in a loose skirt, and no panties.

The whole incident takes place within seconds. He kisses me, then I bend over and he lifts my skirt up over my back. He knows I want only about 10 paddle-swats, but good and hard. Here, a prolonged spanking is just what I don't want-just quick..

What brings about such a violent sexual reaction in myself? I think it's pretty easy to explain. The first blow from paddle or hand, whatever the case may be, heats me up right away. The force of the whack brings me to an immediate sexual ejection.

Each succeeding smack seems to add warmth to the area until there is sort of a cycle taking place—smack, heat, a slight recovery, then another smack to begin the cycle again. The whole emotion builds and builds—20 smacks —until I have to release the feeling in the natural way. So it happens.

A psychiatrist rarely concerns himself with the treatment of fetishism—particularly if the fetish is not a full time obsession and the patient is not extremely bothered by its presence. The opposite is more often the case, actually as the patient is usually concerned only with cultivating rater than removing a fetish attachment.

And, while a perversion should often be treated by psychotherapy, here, again, many individuals who seek psychiatric help do so not with the express purpose of changing their ways, but with a desire to learn how they can live as comfortably as possible with their perversion.

To make it simple, most persons want to have their sexual cake and eat it, too—emotionally speaking. They want the security of the sexual enjoyment that their perversion affords, yet they wish to appear and to act like everyone else. And, if confronted with a choice-as is so often the case during psychotherapy-they will choose to retain their sexual pleasures rather than to conform with the rest of society.
