Ask a Porn Star: Athena Rayne

Once in a while, you will have the pleasure of meeting a woman who is driven, intelligent, and able to overcome all the hardships life throws at her. Women like this are few and far between, but always are an inspiration.

That's exactly why I admire Athena Rayne. She's one of those women, and she is taking over the porn industry in ways that would make most people's jaws drop. When I found out her story, I immediately wanted to do an interview.

Being the awesome person she is, Athena agreed to it. Here's what she had to say!

Tell me how you became a porn star. Do you have any advice for aspiring porn stars you'd want to share?

Well, it wasn’t anything huge that lead to the decision. A little over a year ago I was camming out of a Starbucks bathroom with one pair of beat up shoes, a cellphone, some cheap mascara. And two dresses to my name.

I did everything I could to dig myself out of it; and eventually was able to save up enough to move in with a roommate; one that would eventually become my partner. About 3 months into living together I mentioned it to him; he was all for it and excited to see me excited. I was accepted to my first agency the day after my 20th birthday.

What were your favorite scenes to shoot so far? Do you have a particular genre you enjoy shooting?

So far my favorite scenes have been my GG with Team Skeet and Verronica Kirei, my BangBus episode, and “My Hot Personal Assistant.” I personally love scenes where I get to create characters, and if anal is involved, even better!

How long have you been in the industry?

About 7 months.

Do you have a dating tip or sex tip you swear by? What is it?

Always be honest with your partner and establish boundaries; your limits are your own and nobody should make you feel guilty for that.

Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing? Tell us all your hobbies!

I love learning new things and making things. Anything where I can use my hands, my mind, or my body will likely be attempted at some point lol. My apartment is a mix of glitter, cogs, mechanics, paint, fabric, exotic food, crafting books, language books, etc.

What do you feel is the biggest misconception about porn? What about being a porn star do people always get wrong?

That we are dirty or in some way don’t actually enjoy what’s going on. I’m not a victim and I never have been.

I mainly listen to YouTubers, to be honest. My favorite song right now is “Honestly” by Gabbie Hanna.

What's your favorite movie?

Tangled.

The Humane Society and shelters for battered women are the closest to my heart. I still donate a certain amount of income to the exact shelter that took me in at 18.

As a model, you're bound to see some seriously crazy stuff while you're on the job. Tell me a funny story that happened while you were shooting

A squirting scene with Mandy Muse; both of us drank so much water. We probably went through a case between us. After the scene we saw our squirt all over the director, ceiling, and furniture on the other side of the room.

I just wanted to say, your figure is amazing. What's your secret to keeping so fit?

Well I actually have issues with my metabolism to be honest. I had a lot of health issues growing up, so I actually have to eat twice the calories most people do. But mac and cheese is good, so I’m okay with it.

Do you have any makeup tips you'd want to share?

Eye cream and bee venom essence before you do your makeup.

Let's talk about fans! Is there anything that you'd want your fans to know?

Without my fans I wouldn’t be where I am today, and I likely would still be stuck in that Starbucks without a penny to my name. I love you guys more than you will ever know, thank you for believing in me.
