Why You Should (Or Shouldn't) Go Vegan!!

Should you go vegan?

Hiya! So I am someone who is currently going vegan and I wanted to make this article post for anyone who might be wanting to also go vegan, or is considering it. So, should you go vegan? Eh, no one but YOU can make that decision, so let's break down the pros and cons:

PROS:

  • Promotion of weight loss—now, if you are a healthy weight, you may not lose a lot. This weight loss is caused by lowered fat and calorie intake. Does that mean that a vegan isn't eating enough? Not really, they can be eating 2,000 calories a day and still lose weight, but that is because their diet is made of natural fruits, vegetables, and oils. Eggs, dairy, and meat are no longer present in their digestive system; so therefore, they may be dropping weight. There is also a con in this, though; some people find the hunger they will feel so largely that they then go and eat unhealthy things that are high in fats, sugars, and carbs, forcing them into a weight gain. If someone cannot handle veganism, that's ok! It's not for everyone, but that's something to keep in mind!
  • Health benefits—People on the vegan diet lifestyle actually have lowered risk of issues with blood pressure, diabetes, heart issues, obesity, and even some cancers!
  • Environmentally friendly—A lot of vegans do it for the environment and animals! They do not like the fact that what's on their plate is a carcass and they want to eat what they are comfortable with, knowing where it came from!!

CONS:

  • Nutrition—Finding good nutrition daily on a vegan diet can be difficult, and impossible for some. Malnutrition can become an issue, and if this is a concern for you, please talk to your doctor and/or a nutritionist before attempting to be vegan.
  • Going out to eat—I live in the USA and it is so damn hard to find a restaurant with vegan options other than a basic salad; don't get me wrong, salads are great! But I'll go into a place wanting a vegan burger (which are absolutely DELICIOUS!!) and I will be met with, "Sorry, our only vegan options are salads." So if that is going to be an issue, do research about what places have a vegan menu or vegan options.

Now, does any of this mean that veganism is healthier? Not really. There's research that says yes and other research that says no.

Now, what's vegan and isn't vegan?

PETA is a vegan-based, non-profit organization that has a lot of controversy around them (mostly because they're absolutely nuts, if you're a vegan company and "rescue" pets and animals, why do you put most of those pets/animals down and kill them?) and they claim Oreos are vegan. The original recipe of Oreos are vegan, yes, but their machines also touch milk, so there's a chance they are not vegan because amounts of dairy can get into the products.

There's a drink called Baí Water and they are 100% vegan, organic, and a ton of other things, like nut and gluten free! I love them so much!

Sodas? Eh, no! Not vegan! Usually, they'll have additives like colours or tastes that are from animals, or their preservatives will be animal oils, such as fish oil. According to Everything Vegan, some sodas (such as Dr. Pepper) are actually vegan and cruelty free.

As someone who is in the process of going vegan, veganism is not easy to switch to for everyone. Some people cannot be vegan because of nutritional or medical issues, and that's ok! But veganism is still hard because you have to be aware of what nutrition you need daily and you need to make sure you can get that nutrition.

Anyways, thanks for reading!!
