The hamburger, an American classic! Let’s face it summers can get hot! Having hamburgers cooking on the BBQ is a must! It’s what summer is for! A hamburger patty crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside, lightly cooked buns to give it that extra crunch, our favourite topping and condiments in between giving it more flavour. We all love the Smokey smell and the savoury taste of a hamburger that has been cooked over fire. BBQing burgers is an American tradition.

Cooking hamburgers on the BBQ is something that exhilarates us. From starting the ignition, to that burst as the flames catch the gas. Even if you use a coal BBQ, there’s something about starting the fire and watch as those black coals turn red. The sound of the hamburger patty sizzling fill our ears, increasing the suspense as we wait for the hamburger to be cooked. Hamburgers cooked on the BBQ brings everyone together.

Cooking hamburgers on the fire brings families and friends closer. Many of us use the BBQ during celebrations, holidays or simply having family members over to visit. It’s something we all look forward to when summer comes. Hamburgers are a summer staple that brings out the true American in all of us.

It is American custom that as hamburgers fry the men stand around the BBQ drinking beers, talking mostly about sports; watching over the food. The idea of being in charge of the food that is cooking over fire brings out their manliness even more so. The women prepare the tables filling it with various condiments or the many sides that go with burgers.

That is one of the best things about burgers, you can dress them anyway you want. There are so many different combinations that goes perfectly with a hamburger. Each of us prefers specific toppings over the other, the way we dress our burger shows our personality. There’s nothing more satisfying then putting those toppings onto the patty or bun and taking that perfect bite.

As the smells from the cooking hamburger patties rise from the BBQ we anticipate and get excited for the savoury meal that is about to take place. The smell of grilled meat, and grease hitting the flames causing smoke. The smell of the food mixing with the fresh summer air is what summer is all about.

The smells that come from the BBQ spread far and wide. Even if you are not part of that celebration that smokey, grilled scent fills one’s nostrils and puts that old factory sense into overdrive bringing out those long lost memories and the desire to have your own BBQ. One may look anxiously around trying to locate the culprit of these savoury smells. The smell of a BBQ and fresh summer air go hand in hand together, it’s like two peas in a pod.

Finally, once the hamburgers are ready and the anticipation can be over. Everyone gathers around to eat. Smiles and nods of satisfaction spread like wild fire as everyone takes their first victory bite. The flavours of the patty, the condiments, toppings in between two buns combine together to make a meal fit for a king.

A hamburger cooked on the grill is the meaning of summer, it’s what Americans do every year, it has been done for generations. We gather together to feast on something delicious. Nothing tastes better than fresh summer air and a hot freshly cooked burger with your favourite toppings. A summer just isn’t a summer unless there are grilled hamburgers with family and friends around to enjoy it. A hamburger cooked in the BBQ in summer is an American tradition.
