My "Slightly Different" Earl Grey Tea Cake with Tea Pairings!
Earl Grey tea is possibly one of the most fragrant and aromatic cake flavours associated with British cake in all of history. Paired usually with something lemony like a lemon icing or some zest within the recipe, I have instead decided on a vanilla pairing since I’m trying out new things. The cake itself is quite simple and yet, it is important that you follow the recipe to your own tastes if you are going to double or even triple it in order to feed more people. Since I’m feeding three people an afternoon tea, I don’t need something large. This cake tin is quite small and is suitable for slicing into quarters for a family of four adults who would also like a cup of tea with their dessert. Teas that pair well with this cake include of course, lemon, then we have orange and the fragrant opposite to flavour: Twinings Lady Jane Grey. I will be pairing it with Fortnum and Mason’s Queen Anne though, it’s a Ceylon with some lovely light undertones and is, in fact, my favourite tea after mint. No sugar or milk required.

Wild Rice Hotdish and Chickens
Wild Rice from this year's harvest. Makes a delicious hot dish or casserole for a potluck or catered meal. It would be catered by a friend. It was for a friends' son-in-laws funeral. Potlucks aren't like the potlucks of old. When she asked if I might make the wild rice hotdish, how could I say no.

Coffee Ratios, Demystified: The Numbers That Fix Almost Every Bad Cup
Almost every disappointing cup of coffee I have ever made came down to the same unglamorous mistake: I was guessing at the dose. Not the beans, not the water temperature, not some exotic technique — just the plain arithmetic of how much coffee went into how much water. The good news is that this is the single easiest thing in coffee to fix, because unlike palate training or latte art, it requires no skill at all. You just need the numbers, and maybe a cheap scale.

Cool Smoothies
Smoothies are great any time of the year, but they are particularly refreshing in the heat of summer. They pair terrifically with just about any meal. They make a tasty after workout or afternoon pick-me-up snack. Sometimes, a smoothie will suffice as a meal in itself.

A Beginner Guide to Home Espresso (From Someone Who Broke Things). AI-Generated.
The first shot I ever pulled at home looked like rust-colored water dripping sadly into a demitasse cup. I'd spent four hundred dollars on a secondhand machine, another eighty on a burr grinder, and approximately forty-five minutes watching YouTube tutorials with the intensity of someone defusing a bomb. The espresso tasted like burnt soil mixed with regret. I drank it anyway, standing over the sink, because I had committed.
