The Idea I needed a salad dressing idea, and I needed it quickly. It was just around noon, and I had just set up my station to start prepping the salad for the evening meal. At 5 pm, we would open our doors to feed the community, and I looked inquisitively at unemptied grocery bags full of veggies and salad that needed to be washed, peeled, and chopped. How would I pull all of this together and incorporate the theme of the evening's meal?

People love to talk about different 'American' foods such as Apple pie and hamburgers when it comes to cuisine that should be seen as a part of the culture of the United States. However, while these foods are very delicious and are eaten by people in the United States all the time, I am afraid to say it is dishonest to call these foods 'American' as if they have any origins in the USA. Apple pie is a food that was invented by the British, not by people from the United States, so this food is about as American as Big Ben or the British monarchy. Hamburgers come from Germany and are thus not a food of the United States. That being said, there are a bunch of different foods that were invented in the US and could be seen as being as 'American' as the Constitution and bald eagles!

Beautiful entrance, gorgeous hostesses, dark wood finishes and of course a hive of activity! This is Maple & Ash in Scottsdale, Arizona. My husband wanted to treat me to an upmarket establishment. He had an idea but I managed to talk him out of that and into this. He gladly made the reservation. Looking at some information on their website, I had learned that they have something called the Tower Hour, which is quite unique, as most restaurants have a cocktail hour. Although that's nice too, so is a cup of green tea. Cocktail hours, in my opinion, are outdated and if you associate yourself with that crowd of patrons, it's not a good look... for me at least. The limited menu for the Tower Hour is separate from the regular menu and the hours are 17:00 - 18:00, Monday to Fridays and served only at the bar & lounge area. That might explain the hive of activity upon entering.
