Most people have comfort foods they turn to when they are not feeling great. There are many comfort foods they could choose, but most people choose what they know will quickly help them when they feel down in the dumps. Once people find a comfort food that works for them, they tend to stick with it, because they know what it will do for them. They tend not to consider other options.

A lot of people choose mac and cheese as their comfort food. However, they might not know that their mac and cheese fix doesn't have to be limited to the meal being scooped out of a bowl, or eaten from a plate with a fork. Even though those are the most common ways to eat macaroni and cheese, there is another way to eat it.

Mac and Cheese: The ideal comfort food.

The combination of macaroni and cheese is on every list of comfort foods, and often it is near the top. While the taste of it is definitely good, a study shows much more about comfort foods.

Shira Gabriel, a professor at the University of Buffalo, found that comfort foods are associated with memories of our childhood. We often think of certain foods along with the circumstances that were happening when we first grew fond of them. So, when we eat mac and cheese as comfort foods, it is not because there are any magic ingredients in the dish. It is because of the memory and association we had with our mothers who first introduced us to the combination.

Gabriel explained that she discovered through her study that comfort foods are often those that our caregivers gave us when we were children. We are drawn to that food as adults, especially if there was a good relationship with the person who introduced us to the food.

The mac and cheese meal side dish is so popular that it might appear on dinner tables more often than other side dishes. If you want to branch out from your traditional recipe, try making macaroni and cheese muffins. Then you can pick one up with your hands, and eat it just like you eat other muffins.

How to make mac and cheese muffins.

The good thing about the mac and cheese muffin is that the recipe is quick and easy. In fact, you do not have to reinvent the wheel to come up with a new recipe. Most good cooks already have their own favorite tried and true recipe for making good mac and cheese. You can make the dish as you usually do. Then simply bake individual servings in a muffin tin.

To make mac and cheese muffins, follow this easy and quick recipe:

  1. Spray 1 to 2 standard muffin tins with non-stick oil spray.
  2. Put about ¼ cup mac and cheese in each section of the muffin tins.
  3. Sprinkle ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese over each top.
  4. Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes, or until the tops are slightly browned.
  5. Take the pans from the oven, and let them cool for about 5 minutes. This will allow the ingredients to settle before you remove them from the pan.
  6. Loosen the muffins, and carefully remove them from each section of the muffin pan.
The muffin will be a serving size, and can be eaten just as you would eat any other muffin. If you make two pans, there will be enough for the entire family. However, if you make only one pan, you will wish you had made more, because the muffins won't last long in a household full of mac and cheese lovers.

Enjoy mac and cheese muffins.

Children love mac and cheese when eaten from a bowl. They will also love mac and cheese muffins once they are introduced to them. Even small children can pick up a muffin with their little hands and eat it. They might love them so much that they will begin to request them when none are available. So, be prepared to make mac and cheese muffins often.
