Water , an elixir of life, is contaminated in various forms in today's world. Drinking water consumption is associated significantly with the decrease of blood pressureWe should be cautious about the drinking water contamination happening in our environment.

Drinking water contamination refers to the presence of harmful substances in water that is intended for human consumption.

These contaminants can come from a variety of sources, including industrial pollution, agricultural runoff, and sewage treatment plants.

One of the most common types of drinking water contamination is bacterial contamination. This can occur when human or animal waste enters a water source, such as a river or lake. The most common type of bacteria found in contaminated water is Escherichia coli (E. coli), which can cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, and other symptoms. Other types of bacteria that can be found in contaminated water include salmonella, campylobacter, and shigella.

Another source of drinking water contamination is agricultural runoff, which occurs when fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals used in farming wash into nearby water sources. These chemicals can contain nutrients that can cause excessive growth of algae, which can lead to oxygen depletion and the death of fish and other aquatic life.

A common form of water contamination is heavy metals, lead, and arsenic. Lead can be found in pipes and fixtures, while arsenic can occur naturally in some groundwater. Long-term exposure to these heavy metals can lead to serious health problems, including developmental delays, learning difficulties, and cancer.

Radioactive contamination: which can occur when radioactive materials, such as those used in nuclear power plants or uranium mines, enter a water source. Exposure to radioactive materials can increase the risk of cancer and other serious health problems.

Drinking water contamination can have serious health effects, especially for vulnerable populations such as young children, pregnant women, and people with compromised immune systems. It can also have negative effects on local ecosystems, by killing off fish and other aquatic life.

To prevent drinking water contamination, it is important to properly treat and test water sources, and to monitor them for potential contamination. This can include regular testing for bacteria, chemicals, and other contaminants, as well as implementing treatment methods such as filtration and UV disinfection.

It is also important to address the sources of contamination, such as industrial pollution and agricultural runoff, by enforcing regulations and implementing best management practices.

Consumers can also take steps to protect their own drinking water by using a water filter, and regularly testing their water supply.

Additionally, they can also help to protect local water sources by being mindful of their own use of chemicals and pesticides, and by supporting conservation efforts.

How to make it safe for drinking?

Pot Water: Store the water in Mud-pot which naturally preserves the water. Add some pepper seeds inside the pot water which promotes growth of natural bacteria.

Avoid Heating: Always consume the water in its raw natural form instead of heating it. As hot water kills all the micro-organisms in water.

Avoid RO water: Reverse Osmosis treated water is free from micro-organisms, natural minerals etc., Hence we will not get the natural minerals and eventually the immunity gained from pure water.

Rain Water: Save rain water and consume it in raw form. It is the purest form of water on earth with natural minerals. It avoids most of the health issues suffered by humans today.

Carry a water bottle: whenever you travel away from home. In this way you can avoid drinking water from plastic bottles sold in shops.

Avoid Packaged drinking water: As it generates a large amount of plastic waste, which can be harmful to the environment.

Plastic takes hundreds of years to decompose and can lead to the accumulation of plastic waste in landfills, oceans, and other bodies of water.

Overall, drinking water contamination is a serious issue that affects both human health and the environment. It is important to take steps to prevent and address contamination,

in order to ensure that everyone has access to safe and clean drinking water.
