What’s the best food incentive for a Super Bowl party? Buffalo chicken dip! It’s zesty, creamy, and delicious! It’s so good my friends come just for it. They’ve walked into my house, sat down at the dining table, and immediately dug into the dip. If that doesn’t speak volumes, I don’t know what will.

Buffalo chicken dip is a Super Bowl snack tradition. I learned it when I attended a Super Bowl party in New Jersey, and I’ve made it ever since. And it’s not just popular with my family and friends. Have you seen the buffalo chicken dip memes? No worries if not, I’m happy to share below, but let’s just say people love it!

It’s no wonder why the dip is such a hit if you look at the ingredients: chicken, cheese, cream, and hot sauce. Yum! Even if you don’t like spicy food (like me), you can alter the amount you put in to get the flavor without the heat, and it’s super easy to make. So, whether you’re an experienced cook or not, you can make this delish dip. Now who’s really winning? I’d say you.

Buffalo Chicken Dip Ingredients

  • Hot sauce (whichever kind you like)Ranch dressing (You can also use sour cream, but I love the added ranch flavor.)
  • Cream cheese (I recommend Philly)
  • Cheddar Cheese (You can use any other cheese as a substitute. Personally, I use a cheddar combo.)
  • Chicken (You can use canned, cook raw chicken, etc. I use rotisserie chicken, and it adds bonus flavor.)
  • Green Onions (sliced and garnished on top)
  • Blue cheese (This is Optional! I don’t use it, but I know some people love it. So, it’s added for your benefit of choice.)

Dip Tips

  • Soften the cream cheese to room temperature, so that it mixes well.
  • Use rotisserie chicken to add flavor and save time.
  • Halve the hot sauce if you want it milder.
  • Double the hot sauce if you want it hotter.
  • Plan to make extra! This dip goes fast. You don’t want to run out 10 minutes into the game.

What to Dip

Now you may be wondering, what do I dip into buffalo chicken dip? Well, lucky for you, there are a lot of options. Here are some favorites: carrots, celery, bell peppers, bread, crackers, tortillas, potato chips, and BBQ chips. Happy dunking!

Here’s the full recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1/2 cup hot sauce
  • 1/2 cup ranch or sour cream
  • 3 cups cubed or shredded rotisserie chicken
  • 2 (8 oz) block of Philadelphia cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded combo cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup blue cheese (optional if you want it)
  • Sliced green onions, garnished on top
  • Celery, carrots, tortilla chips, crackers, etc., for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté minced garlic for about 30 seconds. Next, add the chicken and hot sauce and let it cook to a simmer. Once the sauce has thickened, reduce the heat too low and stir in the cream cheese, your choice of ranch or sour cream, and the cheddar cheese combo.
  3. Once the cream and cheese is fully mixed and melted, turn the heat off. Transfer the mix from the skillet to a baking pan, and add a layer of cheese to the top.
  4. Bake until the cheese has melted and the dip bubbles.
  5. After baking, garnish with green onion slices, and the optional blue cheese.

Other Cooking Options

You can cook the dip solely on the stove, in a cast-iron skillet, or in a crockpot.

I hope you enjoy the recipe and have a wonderful Super Bowl! Let’s hope there are no cancellations, so your buffalo chicken dip can be devoured. Knock on wood.
