Three varieties of bread rolls

Red Star yeast

The key to a good bread roll is quality yeast. Red Star Platinum is one of my favorite brands.

If you make all three varieties, you will have something for everyone.

Bread Rolls

1 package of active dry yeast

1 cup of warm water

1 cup of milk

3 tablespoons sugar

2 teaspoons salt

3 tablespoons of butter

5 cups of all-purpose flour

Pour yeast into 1 cup of warm water until it is dissolved (make sure water is not hot, or it will de-activate the yeast).

Heat milk and pour into a mixing bowl.

Add sugar, salt & butter.

Stir in dissolved yeast.

Add 3 cups of flour and beat for about 5 minutes.

Slowly add the remaining 2 cups of flour to form a soft dough.

Knead in the bowl for a few minutes.

Spray underneath dough with butter spray, then spray the top of the dough as well.

Cover with a fresh kitchen towel and let it rise for about 1 hour.

Divide dough into three equal portions.

Roll out each portion on a floured surface one at a time. (Place a sheet of wax paper on the top of the dough when rolling to prevent sticking)

After it is rolled flat, add the following:

Pizza Bread Roll

½ - 1 package of pepperoni

½- package of cheddar cheese, shredded

½- package of mozzarella cheese, shredded

Cheese Bread Roll

½- package of cheddar cheese, shredded

½- package of mozzarella cheese, shredded

Cinnamon Raisin Bread Roll

Spray dough with butter spray, then add:

Cinnamon sugar

(1/4 cup sugar and 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon, mixed together in a bowl)

1/2 cup of raisins

Tip:

Be sure to coat the dough completely with the cinnamon sugar.

Each time you roll out the dough and add the ingredients on top of it, start at one end and roll the dough into a log.

Place it on your cookie sheet.

After you roll each one and are all placed side-by-side on your cookie sheet, spray each roll with butter spray.

Bake in a 375 degree preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes.

Slice while warm (not hot). Place your sliced bread rolls in a large airtight container for later consumption.

They will last up to 3 days if stored airtight.

Best if eaten warm.

Tips:

Use good yeast! Good yeast will make for light and fluffy bread.

Be sure you allow the dough to rise. If you do not, the bread will be dense.

You can add cooked, crumbled sausage to the pizza bread rolls along with the pepperoni and cheese.

Another option for the pizza bread roll is to dip your baked rolls into pasta sauce while eating.

You can get creative with your dipping sauces for the pizza and cheese rolls. Try pesto sauce, ranch dressing, or blue cheese dressing for dipping.

You can choose any type of melty cheese you like for the pizza bread roll and the cheese bread roll. You can also add more than two different varieties.

If you prefer hard cheese, such as feta, you can add it to the cheese rolls, but I would use it along with a melty cheese to keep the stringy consistency of the rolls.

For the cinnamon raisin rolls, you can also sprinkle the rolled dough with chocolate chips for a sweeter treat.

Other sweet bread roll options:

Spread dough with chocolate hazelnut spread and chopped nuts instead of cinnamon sugar and raisins.

Spread dough with melted chocolate and sprinkle with graham crumbs and mini marshmallows for a Smore bread roll.

Oven temperatures vary, so check your rolls after the directed baking time, and if they are not cooked through, add them back into the oven to bake for five-minute increments until they are fully cooked.
