Growing Up In A Broken Family
Hello!! I just want to start off by saying that my childhood was shit, literal shit. If I could, I would try to name all of the good experiences as a child, but sadly the bad outweighed the good. Now I'm not trying to throw myself a pity party and tell you all about my woes because I do know that I'm not the only person with a messed up family which is why I'm writing this in hopes that people who have gone through this will relate to it and be able to understand that it shouldn't define them later in life.
Home Not-So-Sweet Home
Ah! It’s that time of year for us students to be home for the end of year festivities. I know some people who were truly excited for their fun family traditions and various celebrations that occur. I on the other hand couldn’t quite verbalise how I felt about going back home.. well I could but there definitely wasn’t anything positive that would come of it.
I'm Over Christmas.
Yesterday, for the first time ever, I did not post any ‘Merry Christmas’ message on my social media and it was deliberate. I did reply to messages and called loved ones on this day.

This Christmas I got to spend it with my parents and my little boy. Even though he wasn’t too interested in opening gifts I still loved every minute of it.

There’s not long to go until the big day, but if you have a young family, it can be difficult to keep the kids entertained in that short gap between the end of school and Christmas day. And what’s more, with all the food and presents you should have bought and wrapped by now, it’s likely you won’t want to spend too much money keeping the little ones entertained between now and the big day. So what can you do to keep them entertained over the next few days, without having to spend any money?

I think it’s pretty common for mothers and daughters to have strained relationships. But, just because something is common, doesn’t mean it’s good or that it should be ignored or accepted as normal.

I'm black, I roughly have the same shade as the two arms on the left. I'm in between. When I was growing up, my mom and dad are the same shade as me but one thing didn't sit right with me by the time I got a little older, my grandmother and my sister are lighter than the rest of us including some of my uncles so when it was time to look into my family tree for a school project, I found something intriguing. Other than the fact that my great grandfather was a WWII veteran, he was white and for years, I've always gaped if that changes things for me but my stepdad was always telling me and my siblings that we're 100% black.

The earliest memory I have from my childhood is of my father dropping me. I can't recall his face. I don't know whether my mother was there or how old I was or what I was wearing. I can only remember the pure joy of looking out of the huge window, over the city lights, as he held me high above his head and as he laughed with me. He wanted me to see this sight whose beauty he knew I would not understand until much later. But he hoped I would store it up and think about it when I needed reminding that the world is a good place. He wanted me to feel his happiness, if only for a moment, fleeting like his own. And I did. Until his arms, unsteady from all he'd had to drink so that he could forget these foreign thoughts, faltered. And his hands shook. And he let me fall right through them.

Welcome! I’m so happy you picked this house. I don’t know who you are or where you’re from, but I’m glad you found a home. I know you don’t know me, and for all you know I’m just a person behind a keyboard. Well, I grew up in this house. I wanted to share some stories about the house. You have no idea what the walls would say if they could talk, but I do. I lived it.

The first year after my son was born, I made it a weekly habit to write him letters documenting many of my thoughts and feelings during his first year of life.

Toy Mountain is back and it is a great way to help spread the Holiday Cheer. However, this year I want to help people know what gifts are in the most need. It's gifts for teens! Every year the Toy Mountain drive gets filled up with gifts, which is awesome! ...but every year the teens seem to get a little forgotten. Which is why I wanted to help spread the word that what Toy Mountain is in need of is toys that are aimed for kids that are a bit older.
Christmas 2019 Goals, Traditions and Changes
It is that time of year again folks. The time of year when most of us begin to stress over the upcoming Christmas holidays. Many people will now begin their speedy trip into a financial slump and credit card debt just to pull off what they feel is the perfect Christmas.
