How To Survive Your First Semester at Uni
Having only been at uni for one semester, it seems a bit pointless to write something like this as I am probably just as clueless as people who haven't gone to uni yet, but I know that if I had read something like this there would definitely be a few things I would've done differently.

What I Learned in My Gap Year
College has always been a rocky boat for me, especially leading up to my high school graduation. One minute I wanted to go, the next I didn’t. Looking back I always subconsciously knew that I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t really ready to give myself the huge responsibility that is college. I finally decided (very last minute) that I would take a year off to work. I would save up money and put it all towards my future education. Little did I know that my decision to take a year would affect everyone I knew, because everyone decided to give me their opinions on my life!!! (Notice my angry sarcasm?) Some family supported my decision fully; they said that college isn't for everyone and you can't force it. Some even tried to convince me that I shouldn't go at all. Other family looked at me like I killed someone. They told me that I was making a huge mistake. It was a wild couple of months, especially when the holidays came around. All I dealt with that year was people telling me what was right for me. Trust me, none of them knew what was right for me. Only I knew what was right for me. First thing I learned: You can't listen to anyone else but yourself. You live for you.

The Importance of the Arts
Whether people are willing to admit it or not, the arts are currently under attack in our nation's education. Funding is being pulled away from the arts or, in some cases, arts programs are getting cut from the programs offered entirely. Sometimes this is done in an effort to allocate funds to another department, like sporting programs, and others it's done in an effort to cut corners in a tight budget. Despite the quality of excuse, severely cutting the funding of arts programs or arts programs altogether can be highly detrimental to the students' overall educational experience.

School Survival Guide
We all know school is a burden. You have to wake up early, make friends, complete endless homework assignments, follow the useless rules, and all the while pretend to be happy to be there. Now, don't get me wrong, school is a privilege. Many kids out there would do anything for an education, but the struggles that come with school are almost too much to bear. Hopefully, tackling each day is about to get a lot easier.

From STEM to ESL
Having dedicated (or sacrificed, depending on your point of view) the final 5 years of my 20s to taking a foundation degree in physics and maths, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in physics, I am frequently asked why I am an English teacher rather than a physics and/or maths teacher. Allow me to explain.

The Key to Language Learning
A lot of people want to learn a new language but quickly give up once they discover how challenging language-learning can be. I never really understood that. I’ve always been the type of person that was constantly thinking, “That can’t be THAT hard.” Because of this feeling, and for many other reasons, I decided to try to learn one of the hardest languages in the world: Chinese. Here is what I found to be helpful when learning a new language.
