Daria

My review

Daria was a show on MTV, that ran from 1997 to 2003. The show was a spin off of another character from the Beavis and Butthead universe. – Daria Morgan, Dorfer – a cynical brain on Beavis and Butthead and that was how she remained on her own show of the same name “Daria”.

On her series, Daria moves to a new town called Lawndale, with her family and starts a new school too. The shows theme song is as Angsty and cynical as Daria and Jane, her only friend who she meets in the first episode. Also, the song is so 90s alternative it’s perfect! Mike Judge did create the Daria character, but he did give his blessing to the people who created the vehicle for the character.

Jane Lane, Daria is only friend, is an artist and her brother. Trent had a band called Mystic spiral. But they were always thinking of changing the name, which was a running joke throughout the series. Even though they were a fictional band on an animated cartoon, Mystic spiral was actually pretty cool! The rest of the characters were typical high school stereotypes like Kevin and Brittany – the dumb jock and big boob cheerleader girlfriend. Quinn – Darius popular sister, with her friends, other stereotypical, popular girls, calling their clique the fashion club.

“Daria” also has stereotypical teachers– the one day short of a heart attack Mr. Anthony DiMartino. The sensitive teacher who teaches English, the teacher, who thinks every boy student is her ex-husband and hates them all every member of the opposite sex, etc.

Jake and Helen – Quinn and Daria’s parents. These two are stereotypes unto themselves . Jake – an over stressed out consultant who is not good at his job. Helen – a tightly wound high business attorney. That’s it for them.

In a high school where the racial make up is predominantly, Caucasian – Jody and Mac are what is called the token black students. Jodi– the stereotypical overachiever, and her boyfriend Mac, who is a jock like Kevin. Daria’s initial appeal to me was that she was a brain – who was also an antisocial outcast and that is how she and Jane liked it. Their meaning That of Daria and Jane, had a favorite TV show they enjoyed Called “ sick sad world”. It was a show within a show, meaning that characters of one show that you were watching are watching a TV show too. They show.” six sad world.” was a show about sick and sad stuff that happened to people in their world.

Darian Jane’s favorite cuisine was pizza. Later in the show, Daria stole Tom from Jane, Jane‘s boyfriend is what he was, and it was really lame to have Daria do that. Until the show writers had Daria do that, she was an anti-popular anti-hero. Stealing boyfriends is something that her sister Quinn was known for not Daria.

The character of Tom was not needed, perhaps, bringing Tom in was the shows jump the shark moment sad to say. Jane was the bigger person to still wanna be friends with Daria, and respect Daria and Tom’s relationship. Throughout the whole series, Jane and Trent Lane were the ones who remain true to themselves. Daria, however became everything she claimed to hate.

So therefore, I love Jane and Trent Lane. They were everything I am and aspired to be all my life. Trent and Jane Lane if they were real people I’d hang out with them for sure. I now conclude my review of the MTV series Daria.
