In May 2017, Tiffiney Crawford was discovered dead from gunshot wounds in her van, following a distressing 911 call made by her spouse, Jason Crawford, who was 37 years old at the time. According to Jason, Tiffiney had shot herself twice following a dispute, and the incident took place late at night outside their residence in Cullman, Alabama. However, investigators later determined that Tiffiney's death was actually a homicide.

Background

Tiffiney and Jason had been married for over six years, but their relationship didn't begin with a fairy-tale romance. When they first started dating, Jason had already gone through a divorce after his first wife cheated on him.

Similarly, Tiffiney was also previously married. However, despite their pasts, Jason was smitten with Tiffiney's striking beauty and outgoing personality. "I was drawn to her even though we were different in many ways," Crawford stated. Eventually, Tiffiney got a divorce and they started a relationship together.

Jason and Tiffiney Crawford

Jason and Tiffiney tied the knot in 2011, and as a result, Tiffiney became a stepmother to Jason's son, Logan, from his previous marriage. The couple then went on to have a son of their own shortly after, and a daughter the following year.

As their children grew up, Tiffiney was highly engaged in their lives and activities. "She was very committed to being an active and involved mother," noted a source close to the family.

The Crime Scene

Jason Crawford, who was 37 years old at the time, found his 32-year-old wife, Tiffiney Crawford, slumped over in the driver's seat of her van outside their home in Cullman, Alabama on May 2, 2017, located approximately 50 miles north of Birmingham.

Crawford immediately called 911 and reported, "My wife is shot." When the Cullman County Sheriff's deputies arrived, they discovered Tiffiney holding a pink revolver in her left hand, which according to Jason, she kept in the driver's side door for personal protection.

The pink revolver as was found at the crime scene

Jason Crawford informed the deputies that he and Tiffiney had been in an argument. Crawford mentioned that he had no intention of letting her inside the house that night and was, therefore, collecting some of her clothes. "And the last thing I remember, she said she loved me, and I was going in the house," Crawford recounted to the deputies. "And I heard a shot, a scream, and then another shot."

Tiffiney Crawford had sustained two gunshot wounds to her head, one on the left side of her jaw and the other on her left temple. While at the scene, at least one sheriff's deputy speculated that Tiffiney had taken her own life. Despite the paramedics' efforts to revive her, unfortunately, it was too late.

Investigation into The Case

The case was assigned to the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation. Joe Parrish was the state agent tasked with investigating the case.

The family looked happy before the chaos

Upon delving deeper into the Crawford case, Parrish discovered that Tiffiney had been involved in a romantic relationship with another man.

Tiffiney's close friend shared that she had confided in her about her intentions to leave Jason and had secured a job at a nearby grocery store to accumulate funds for a new life. She expressed her doubts on the possibility of Tiffiney taking her own life, noting there was nothing suicidal about her.

Tiffiney before her death

Parrish summoned Jason Crawford for questioning. During the interrogation, Crawford disclosed that he had observed a significant transformation in Tiffiney's behavior in the months preceding her death. "She began to drink more," he stated. Additionally, Crawford verified that Tiffiney was right-handed, which was crucial information for Parrish to know since the firearm was discovered in Tiffiney's left hand.

Crawford also divulged that on the day Tiffiney passed away, he stumbled upon messages on their computer that hinted at her infidelity. Crawford claimed that he called Tiffiney to confront her about what he had discovered, but she denied it.

When the autopsy report came back in March 2018, the case was ruled as a homicide.

The Trial and Sentencing

In November 2022, Jason Crawford was brought to trial for the murder of his wife.

Jason Crawford in court

On March 10, 2023, Jason Crawford appeared in court once more as his legal team argued for his innocence. However, the judge ultimately delivered a verdict and sentenced Crawford to 99 years in prison. As per Alabama law, he may be considered for parole in 15 years.

Tiffiney was right-handed and the gun was found in her left hand. There was no way she could have shot herself twice with the gun in her non-dominant hand.

It was clear, Jason killed his wife in anger after he discovered his secret relationship.
