I tapped his name, sent $1, and Venmo gave me that little red error: This user can’t receive payments.

Essay on indigenous people face today
I think the biggest issue facing indigenous people in Canada is mental health and all of the repercussions that come as a product of poor mental health. I believe that this issue is caused by generational trauma, but also by the structure of our society and how indigenous people are inherently disadvantaged due to the structure of our world. Is poor mental health in this kind of community in any community can cause a ripple effect of drug use poverty just overall systemic issues that affect multiple generations. One of the ways that I think that we can deal with mental health for indigenous people is to reconcile the bigger issues that are causing the mental health crisis, such as generational trauma, and a disconnection from their culture. And we have seen by allowing indigenous peoples to reconnect with their culture that can improve their quality of life and mental health. However, this is a very slow process. As policies around mental health and mental health care and awareness are on the slower side to change and assist people. How I think that we can address this is better access to these resources around mental health with a level of cultural awareness that is needed when dealing with these issues, especially in indigenous communities. One of the things that I have seen be effective is rehab facilities, focussing on that reconnection to culture and indigenous life. We can see this with Canadian statistics around indigenous mental health specifically in the comparison of indigenous groups, living on reserve and off of reserve land and in indigenous groups with indigenous status and non-indigenous status the groups with indigenous status who went into foster care had about a 5% better mental health outcome in their reported mental health experiences, saying that their mental health was good to excellent in comparison to the groups who were more disconnected from their culture and did not have an indigenous status. Mental health is really important because simultaneously it is both a product and a catalyst to other issues in the community. Mental health struggles and issues can both be a product of addiction and a cause of addiction as well as a product and cause of generational trauma, poverty, violence, gangs and other significant problems. The core idea here is that by allowing connection to culture that can improve mental health and giving these people access to mental health resources. It can help stop the cycle of violence, trauma, and abuse.

A Rescue Named Houdini (later switched to Houdi)
This cat is killing me. Her new thing is hide and seek; she used to play tag, but she got bored with that one, and this is her new way of torturing me. She is obsessed with it. And it's nonstop. Unfortunately, we just moved, so there are literally hundreds of places to hide, and she's a cat! Lord, have mercy! We need to get rid of the boxes ASAP bc those are her preferences. She prefers to hide between the boxes. Even worse, if I would rather not play, she finds me and pokes me quickly as a reminder that I can only quit when she says so. Not before. I learned the hard way...those bites!
