Red Flag Rage
A story made from rage, and truth
Red Flags lay over the front yard; not sure as to why. The air was still. It welcomed me in with a blank smile. I shrugged it off as I met my mother, who raised me from afar for the first time. She was WARM and BRIGHT. She welcomed me into her arms, just like a long-lost daughter. I had found where I was supposed to be, maybe finding myself for the first time in years. Someone who treated me like her own, though she'd never met me before. She always called me daughter regardless.
I felt it smiling in the corner, a dark aura surrounding it. We celebrated that night for the future, because it was bright. Our family was complete: a mother, a father, my siblings, my babies. It was perfect every time, every visit. The feeling of always looking over my shoulder, of being watched for every move I made around my Mother.
"Make me an enemy, reap what you sow... You tried to take a life... Tried to drag it and trample it deep into the mud. Faking your tears while you're drawing the blood!"

I grew to know it before it went away. I saw it take a role that we all should be proud of; it became its shield. I learned life wasn't all it seemed. There wasn't ever a word or a lick of truth behind a falsetto mask. Claimed to be a spectacle of God. Sitting behind teachings that meant nothing more than tasting the sweet lie roll off its lips.
"What's wrong? Can't fake a smile for me now? Taking faith and leaving it stained, bowing your head, weaponizing God's name. Don't bother to kneel, don't bother to pray. The Gods cannot save you from me on this day,"

Now we wait. Idly, our rage growing. Our teeth and claws sharpening, breath as hot as the hell fires that you'll be turning to when you're released from your earthly body. Tick-tock, mother fucker. Every day it breathes; it shatters another so fragily. Broken from what truly was supposed to be a happily ever after.
It hurt. It affected a whole family, trapped in a web of lies. We came crashing down to earth, slammed to the ground. Air knocked out of our lungs. How do we tell the ones who do not understand what it did? So young, pure, and innocent. How can it take away what little time we had already and make it shorter?
It made the world break apart, and I feel like in a constant state of falling as everything I love fades into the black. Strong? Sure, if you call holding it and filing it for later being strong. Sure if you call crying yourself to sleep because you worry about the people you love. Sure, trying to stay in one piece after each blow. Poison spreads in my body while it thinks it could get away with an evil crime. Each blow leads to a crack in our reality. Each blow only gives us a little time left. Shattered pieces of the "greatest" scheme now become a shard of glass in your throat, ready to drag you to where you belong.
"Until I stepped up, and exposed all your crimes! I wasn't fooled, no, I wasn't played... Look at the cage I made your uniform... What I think is the very worst part? I know it was planned from the goddamn start. Abused a fragile body, broke a vulnerable mind. Shattered what was left of a bruised, bleeding heart... Sit there and rot in the dark of a cell,"

Time is short. It won't be long now. A light will fade, and Angels will sing their song. The Angels cry in chorus for a woman who was the bravest of all. They cry for the sorrow that comes next. Warmth then comes cold. Then from the ashes, a roaring fire soars. For justice. The fire will consume it and extinguish when all that is left is ash.
"Through the wind and the rain, she stands hard as a stone. In her world, she can rise above, but her dreams give her wings, and she flies to a place where she's loved. Concrete angel. A statue stands in a shaded place, an angel girl with an upturned face. A name is written on a polished rock, a broken heart that the world forgot,"
