Treble Charger, "Friend Of Mine" and the beginning of music I'm thirteen, sitting cross legged on the worn blue carpet of my bedroom floor. "Bye-Bye-Bye" blasts from my CD player boombox. I sing along while I draw in my sketchbook. The heel of my palm drags across the linen paper as the graphite marks a path behind it. The air is hot. I wipe a small bead of sweat off my forehead. The rhythmic whirling of the box fan reverberates in the window frame. With no warning my bedroom door swings open, jarring me from my peaceful state. I gasp in surprise but then sigh in relief as I realize the perpetrator standing in my door is only my brother.

Life is unpredictable sometimes. It can be messy. It can be chaotic, and it doesn’t always fit into a neat little box. Like life itself, my taste in music is all over the map. Everything from tc theme songs to alternative rock, pop to Broadway will make an appearance on this list.

.38 Special-Hold on Loosely When I was young growing up in San Antonio, Texas, my family and I took 3 road trips to Disneyland in California. My dad would be the main driver and he played many random songs on cassette along the way. This is the song I remember most and whenever I hear it, I reminisce about those road trips I miss dearly.

It was the Summer of 2013 and I was lying on the carpet of the floor of my dorm room in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, letting the music wash over me as I watched the clouds go by through the window...

Music has played a major role in people’s lives for hundreds of years. Whether it ranges from times of celebration to worship or even joy and pleasure. But in turn music has always played a part in telling people’s own personal feelings that they wish they could let out but don’t have a way of doing so. For me music can sometimes also tell people’s stories too. Even the lyrics when it mentions certain things it becomes almost like a recording of the past. But that’s when music not only helps relieve some memories, but it can also help heal and strengthen even the darkest ones that are made. All my life I have had so many ups and downs and I know this may sound cliché like any writer or music lover would say but, music truly became my comfort to get me through some of the most painful parts of my life. But if there is one thing that I have learned is that when you reach your lowest points and when you reach rock bottom. It’s when it becomes your most pinnacle moment in life that gives you the strength to rise from the bottom to the top.

What would today’s world do without Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon, TikTok - the internet, essentially - to meet their music entertainment needs?

At thirty-five, I had everything I dreamed of. I was engaged, had a loving family, lifelong friends, and had just landed what I thought would be my dream job. Career-minded and hard-working, I had big goals and wasn’t afraid to take a chance. All my education and work led to this moment. I did it. I landed the leadership role I long sought.

Human memories are fallible. As we age, our minds ruthlessly edit our pasts, either inflating, deflating, or conflating events to create a neat, linear narrative.

The prelude: I used to be adamantly against Spotify. I thought the interface was weird and I’m a creature of habit. I liked the simplicity of Pandora: type in an artist and listen to genre-similar music to your heart's content.
