Classical Music Playlist You Must Listen To and That Inspires You
Listening to classical music can make you as relaxed as energetic, as well as being involved in a very emotional state. I love listening to classical music, as well playing the violin. My passion for classical music extend as much as I listen to (new) music and recordings. Why does a musician play the way he or she plays? What feeling(s) do I get? And I can ask myself many more questions, but overall, I love making my own playlist, whether it is on YouTube, Spotify, or any other streaming platform.

When it comes to meditation and music, they are inseperaptble, like the M & M candy. But I'm not going to be discussing candy. I'm going to share with you all my "Zen" list. First off, what in the world is Zen? Zen has two meanings. In the noun form, it is a name of a Japanese school that teaches about meditation and finding peace through Buddhism. Described as an adjective, it means to feel joy and feel peaceful. With that being said, today, I'll be talking about my "Zen" playlist. My playlist has four genres. The first is meditation. The second is worship music. The third is motivational/clean-up music. And the fourth is hip-hop/rap music. Each one relates to me differently both mentally and physically.

Good Morning My get up and go starts with breathing in and out, stretching all while listening to my Zen List Of Music. I find myself choosing my music from not only the words but the instrument.

Being fifty has its privileges, I guess??? … Let’s take for instance the evolution of the playlist. Most readers may not be aware or know where the first playlist originated.

To me, meditation is all about evening out your mood. The purpose of it is to take you out of whatever negative emotions you may be experiencing and bring you back into a better mood. Zen is evening out the keel of your emotional ship, bracing your mind’s house against the harsh storm winds of the circumstances of the world and getting right within yourself. That’s where music comes in.

There isn't anything specific when it comes to relaxing but I do have some artists and songs that come to mind when I want to be "in the zone".

It's Monday, 3 a.m. I'm drifting in the dark, eyes burning as I swipe up to look at just one more post. Then one more. And one more after that. I want to sleep, but I can't stop. Something restless and immense is prowling at the back of my mind. If I set my phone down and close my eyes, I'll have to face this existential dread.

I am not the most skilled at meditating, I find my mind wondering and wandering and willow-wisping away to intrusive thoughts, both seemingly good and seemingly bad, all helpful, none helpful. However, as my Buddhist therapist has told me time and time again as I journey on the path to a fulfilled mind, the road to peaceful, loving, and harmonious thoughts, is anyone truly “good” at meditating? Thich Nhat Hanh, famed Buddhist monk and teacher, residing in Blue Cliff Monastery within the heart of France, nominated by Martin Luther King Jr. for the Nobel Peace Prize, would probably laugh if complimented on his meditation skills. No doubt a shining, contended, humble laugh, and perhaps along with it a word or two about how we never should find ourselves stagnant in growth or willing to accept where we are without pushing the boundaries of our loving-kindness.

Because it doesn’t feel very safe anymore. To be young, queer, and black, in a red state. Family walks get tricky, navigating down the streets in our neighborhood. Making every effort to avoid the streets with the most trump flags. Try not to stare at the confederate flags or those thin blue line flags as we walk by. It’s just a stupid flag, I tell myself. Everyone is entitled to their values and beliefs I say. None of what I say to myself makes me feel better or safe.

Everybody has that one piece of music which just makes everything feel like it’s falling into place, bringing true joy to the listener. Even those who lament at the ‘music of today’ have something which takes their mind to a different place in times of stress or accentuates their mood when they are happy!

Music is a force of nature. It connects us, moves us, and helps us understand ourselves. Many of the songs chosen for this playlist come from shows or movies that are special to me. Although most of these songs are derived from other media there is no need for you to have seen the movies or even enjoy the same genres to connect with the tone of this collection. I chose these songs because they work together to create a serene vibe and promote creativity or self-reflection.

Music To (Not) Write To
Music is something I feel deep within my body. It isn't that I have some irresistible urge to break out into 'Free Bird' at the crack of dawn every morning or make a habit out of strumming 'Wonder Wall' on an acoustic guitar that materializes in my hands anytime college kids start drinking. I get absorbed by music, though. If I'm cleaning or cooking this isn't a problem. It's easy to throw shapes in an empty apartment while sweeping, even if that does mean I'll end up kicking at least one pile into oblivion in the process.
