Treasures in My Backyard
I grew up loving all types of music...but I'm a rock-n-roller from the roots of my hair right down to my core. I mean, I consider the band Staind to be THE BEST therapist I could ever ask for. To this day, if I were to ever meet Aaron Lewis or ANYONE from the band in person...I would hand them a check for all those years I listened to them and felt relief through singing their songs...along with punching my pillows during "Suffocate" and "Mudshovel" (laughing).

Over the years music has changed vastly. I think that is something that everyone can agree on. Although it has taken on immense tweaks and changes of the sorts, I believe it's safe to say that one very important detail has engraved itself into society, as well as music culture.

Hey! My name is Elizabeth Hunt! This is my first post on Vocal and I wanted to share with you what my page is going to be about. I will write about music, album reviews, and movie reviews. Everything I review will fall under the category of "indie" because that's the style I enjoy. I don't think I'll put an explanation under all of them but the one's I'm really passionate about I will.
Elizabeth HuntPublished 7 years ago in BeatThe Empowerment of MUNA
MUNA is one of those rare bands, the ones that you didn't know you needed until you really listened to what they were really saying. Members Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin, and Naomi McPherson met while attending the University of Southern California in 2013 and by 2014 they had found their musical footing and released their first EP, More Perfect. Their tracks are reminiscent of 80s pop, featuring crisp drum sounds and vintage toned electric rhythm guitar parts. Gavin, the vocalist in the group, has a deep, somewhat accented singing voice with actual range, something that many indie singers lack.
Austyn CastelliPublished 7 years ago in Beat5 Indie Bands Worth Your Time
Mainstream music has gotten pretty crappy since the early 2000’s. It’s inanely repetitive, and the only thing saving the lyrics is the beat backing them. That isn’t to demean every genre and song in existence, there are some really amazing bands still rocking music that has a deeper meaning with words that you can relate to.
Allison K. JonesPublished 7 years ago in BeatTop 10 Sophisticated Indie Songs
'Indie' is an incredibly broad concept and contains many different niches. Sophisticated indie is in the spectrum of artists who are not so mainstream and harness their creativity in a way that imbues real emotion in their fans. Many on this list are talented in writing their own songs, playing multiple instruments, and kill it on vocals. They are the very soul of the indie movement.

There is a difference between radio and podcasting. In radio, you have a license to play music by music artists. However, in podcasting, you are not allowed to play copyrighted music without permission. By permission, I was able to upload a few songs by artists with permission. You have to be sure that the artists own their own music and not their record company.

First, there was Joni Mitchell. Then there was Sarah McLaughlin. And then there were Adele, Lorde, and Sia. Continuing along the lineage of those legendary singer-songwriters is the next big thing—Anja Conklin of Anja and the Dreamers. Born to this Earth less than 18 years ago and about to enter her senior year at Mel High, Anja Conklin has already written and recorded well over 100 original songs. Her three-piece band, Anja and the Dreamers, features Anja Conklin on lead vocals, piano, and guitar; Elissa Gilbert on bass and harmony; and Logan Ray Tyler on percussion.
chuck freshPublished 7 years ago in BeatDear X-YLE, "This Year" Is Yours
In the underground world of arts & entertainment, many independent artists, such XYLE, vigorously believe that friends and fans no longer support talent but popularity. Even with the amount of high-quality press he has received, X-YLE still does not consider himself to be part of the "cool kids." X-YLE, a hip hop rapper from Queens, NY, influenced by artists such as DMX, Nas, and many more, garnished his Hip Hop sound which has allowed him to progress within his artistry. His 2017 return consisted of him releasing a track entitled, "This Year", that illuminates his desires and ambitions. When asked what is the inspiration behind his music, X-YLE replied, "Life. Any and everything that goes on in my life fuels all my music. It's from the soul, and I know that I can inspire at least one mind with my music."

With the motto "Breathe and Create," comes a band based out of the fighting city of Orange, Texas. This band doesn’t just have five regular guys trying to make it big, this band consists of five individuals that show their passion for art through the sounds that pierce our ears.
Circle—Making Rounds Around The Square
Screaming is a national art in Finland. They even have a men's choir (30 members strong) that shouts everything from pop hits to national anthems. But then Finland is also the country with the strongest Tango musical line after Argentina. You also have everything in between. So it might be no wonder that the newest Circle album, Terminal (one of the 52 they made, although some accounts say it is over 60!) includes almost any modern rock style imaginable (screams included, of course). No tango though, a shame, I think they could have fitted it in!
