Souvenir's Young America: A Good Band You've Probably Never Heard
We live in a troubled age, and how we treat music (and musicians) reflects that. I won't say musicians are always treated badly, but they are often chronically overlooked. Unless they're created by corporations, for corporations, they'll probably struggle to gain exposure for their craft. Great bands go largely unnoticed, then largely fade away.

Learning a new instrument can be very discouraging to anyone who is just picking up an instrument for the first time. It is crucial that anyone beginning their studies of a musical instrument learns proper technique in order to avoid injury and to allow them to learn how to do anything they want to on that instrument. Good technique is the foundation for learning anything and is the best place to start learning an instrument.

Krista AlmazanPublished 6 years ago in Beat'American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story' Album Review
In my 16 years of life, I have heard a variety of albums, both good and bad, from A LOT of different musical genres. Some on the better end of the spectrum, like Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black or SZA’s Ctrl, and some not so good, like Migos’s Culture (or anything else by them), or any of Maroon 5’s releases after Overexposed. But, do I dislike these albums because I’m uninterested in the music or because I’m uninterested in the artists who have made them? On one hand, Migos might have catchy songs about raindrops and drop tops, but because of personal morals, I refuse to listen to anything released by homophobes (as Quavius has proven to be on multiple occasions). But, in Maroon 5’s case, I lost interest in their music when they released Maps and haven’t paid much attention since then (besides the song they did with SZA, but only because I love her).

In a way, you could say that I found you out of boredom. I was thirteen, going on fourteen, changing, as teenagers do, or maybe it was the music around me that was changing. Or both. The pop music I had grown up with had grown boring, generic, phoned in. Nobody used real instruments or even, so it seemed, their real voices — bands of humans were replaced by bands of computers. At worst, it was lifeless. So I gave up.

If you decide on a rockin' night out on a Friday Night with the Hey Baby band and notice a twirling disco ball above, don’t expect that these guys to pay it any heed. “We don’t conform to KC and The Sunshine Band. We’re true to the music,” says band manager and bassist, Skip Langworthy.

Vinnie Paul left this world several hours ago. And with this tragic news, I feel I must say something slightly devastating but ultimately comforting, well, at least to me.
Aurora Der TotenPublished 6 years ago in Beat10 MORE Modern Thrash Bands to Check Out
As you've probably guessed, I love thrash. What I love even more is finding wickedly awesome bands and advocating them. When I published my first article late last year, I received a lot of feedback about bands that weren't included on the list. I'll be honest with you, some of those bands I did want to include on the list but at the end of the day, I could only pick 10. After a few months of scouring the web and with much deliberation, I was able to compile 10 more bands that I not only felt kicked ass, but also kept moving thrash forward. Without further delay, let's go ahead and jump in.

Shelby WeimerPublished 6 years ago in BeatThe Most Powerful Political Songs of the Decade: The 1960s
Teeming with various issues regarding race, religion, and war, still, even 50 years later, the 1960s is one of the most newsworthy decades ever. From the Civil Rights Movement to the assassination of JFK, to rallies on the war in Vietnam, protest music was everywhere.

When R.U.S.S. of UK art and music collective BRED PUDDING writes about his elderly father, who recently died suffering from dementia and in a nursing home, it's both moving and funny at the same time. That it is performed over an alternative rock come post-punk backing track makes it even more compelling. The track is called 'Diamond Geezer' and I had the pleasure of working with R.U.S.S. as he brought the track together.
